jbrodowsky 3 Posted March 27, 2016 Hey All, I'm considering "Emotional First+ Aid Kit" by Cynthia Alexander. Also "The Big Book on Gastric Bypass" by Alex Brecher Do any of you have any other recommendations? My surgery date is April 12th, and I'm getting kind of nervous about food stuff after surgery, as well as dealing with the emotions that will come up during my journey. Thanks to anyone with any tips! Janice
daniotra 298 Posted March 27, 2016 The Emotional First Aid Kit was recommended by my surgical team. I've been reading it this week, and it's pretty good. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

FocusOnMeNow 599 Posted April 15, 2016 I wish I had read this book years ago but never did because I'm not a fan of the title but it's "Women Who Love Too Much". I am roughly 8 months out from surgery and had no idea how co-dependent I am/was prior to deciding on surgery. I actually have read co-dependent no more which was fabulous but WWLTM is really something I can relate to on SO many levels. Only now because I can no longer stuff my feelings with food do I really "get it." I.e. Why I have been stuffing those feelings for so long. Probably no coincidence that my last relationship was such a disaster that I gained 50 lbs in about 2 years. I never really got the connection before. I've also been reading OA literature and will probably look at the other readings that @@Inner Surfer Girl recommended.

Thanks for the reminder. I might need to revisit those. I also thought it was interesting that there is a book casket Women Who Love Too Much but not a Men Who Don't Know How To Love! Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus is also enlightening.
