Congrats on your progress! I too did not have a great deal of support system in my daily life. I had my surgery at Nicholson Clinic too :)
This site has been my support system from day one. There is a wealth of information and one is free to share experiences, ask questions and get tons of answers :D

BariatricPal is filled awesome gals and guys going through the same stuff as you so come often for support. All the best.

Hey GY, I have nothing useful to add as I don't live in your country, but I have found the posts on this forum to be particularly informative and helpful and the overwhelming majority of members just leap in to help. I am glad you have found a support group as we all need someone. I do not have anyone as such but at least I don't have a 'stone wall' either. Maybe he doesn't want you to succeed - his issues, not yours. Do this for yourself and be happy with your success, acknowledge the beautiful inner and outer you, we are all behind you.

Umo, what a small world! I'm thrilled to meet someone else from the Nicholson Clinic. Maybe we can keep in touch through this site. I'm curious to learn where you are on your journey and what your experiences have been like so far. Nice to "meet" you. :)

Greetings, all. I'm a newbie. I'm a 5'1 mother to a three-year-old son and a professor by trade. My pre-op weight was 212. I was 192.8 on the day of my surgery, Feb 25th, and today I'm 176.2. My surgeon was Dr. Thomas Roshek in Plano/Frisco, TX.

I'm thrilled with the surgery and the 35.2 lb weight loss, but I don't have a large support system in general, and I have a support system of exactly 0 in relationship to my surgery. :) I didn't know how much I'd need someone (or a small village?) to walk this journey with me until now, my fifth week post op.

My husband is not supportive. He doesn't overtly try to undermine my progress, but he doesn't ask questions. He hasn't made a single comment about my weight loss. And he's a gym rat--a muscular, bully of a guy who used to be a personal trainer. This is sort of his business, so to speak: to notice body changes.

But I digress. Clearly I need to look elsewhere for an anchor to keep me from drowning. I want to succeed.

Do you know of any support groups--virtual or face-to-face--in the north DFW area? A private FB group? Helpful forums on here? Anything, really.

Re: finallyfree

Thanks for reaching out to me and for the affirmation. :) He was supportive the day of surgery and the day after. Then nothing. Weird, I know. Thanks to everyone who has responded to my thread. It's so refreshing to hear that people are behind me. I hope to return the gesture.

Thank you, Falecha! I'd love to support you, too. I welcome anyone here to PM me anytime. I don't know much being only 4+ weeks in, but I'll happily listen and share what I know.

@gingeryank I have a private Facebook page for March sleevers. My own surgery was March 1st. Even though you aren't a March sleever I know our group would welcome you with open arms. I am also a Texan, I live in Kerrville which is 60 miles from San Antonio. Since we are a secret group you will need to friend me on FB or give me your FB name and I can try to friend you, then I can aid you to our group. I am Donna Pippin North

Maybe your husband preferred you overweight and insecure so he had more control over you? I have just started on my journey but can't imagine going through it without the support of my significant other. I am sorry that you have to. Stay strong and positive!

It's funny. I teach online, but I wouldn't describe myself as an online/social media enthusiast. I feel like I need to become one insofar as I need to be part of a community. I also have a genetic autoimmune disease, AS, and would love to connect with others with chronic diseases/pain.

I have an excellent psychologist. I guess I forgot that important detail. She's especially helpful in pointing out my husband's control issues and showing me how to retain my autonomy and freedom (and joy!) in the midst of them. I see her weekly, but most recently, she's given me the gentle push to branch out and meet people. I'm so used to hiding--mainly due to my weight--so this step will be important for me.

Congrats on being 19 months post op! Can't wait to be there.

Another great resource for in-person face-to-face support (and hugs) is OA. You can find meeting lists online at OA.org.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
