What are your other addictions/ obsessions?

Recommended Posts

Most of us are (or have been) addicted to food, but what other addictions/ obsessions do you have?

I'll go first....

I'm addicted to/ obsessed with:

•constantly checking my phone throughout the night

•over-exercising

•buying new socks

•gardening

•cruising/vacationing

I'll try to think of more and add them later.

I actually don't think I've transferred any addiction...

My 'relationship' with food was an odd one...

I actually lived on Coca Cola, espresso coffee with lots of sugar and cigarettes...

I'd eat one every day or two...

I was a chef, so I was also constantly tasting food...

I kicked the smoking first...

That was actually easy...

The Coke was much harder...

It wasn't til I left the industry that I rid myself of that habit...

I then weaned myself of the sugar and then the coffee...

I still have one triple espresso every day...

No sugar...

Just coffee in all its glory!!!

If anything, it'd be exercise that I'm 'addicted' to...

But it's a controlled addiction...

For now anyway...

I've always had interests and enthusiasms, some of them could border on obsessions. Now that I am regaining my mobility it is easier to practice more of them.

Swimming

Reading

Writing

Photography

Doing something creative/artistic

Going to movies

Gardening

Decorating

Cooking? (At least trying to learn)

Some that could be problematic-

Shopping (at least now I can actually go somewhere and shop instead of relying solely on online-shopping it is getting better)

Internet/phone/social media

TV

Hoarding

1. Traveling and exploration, my first love. If I'm not jumping on a plane at least once a month, I get.. itchy.

2. Ingress. Check it out. Really! It goes nicely along with #1

3. Meeting new people

4. Entrepreneurial type things. I love trying new things and learning the market. I am currently running a side business alongside my full time job and it's very exciting.

5. Homesteading.. fascinated by this, but I don't have the resources (aka my own home, a piece of land, etc). But I love things like brewing my own kombucha, making soap, candles, etc.

Shopping. I love new everything. Clothes, shoes, purses, things to put in the landscaping...ect.

I do like walking a lot. But stress has kept me from that.

Chobani key lime Greek yogurt. Must have one for Breakfast every day. I check out the grocery store ads in the paper on Sundays to see which market has them on sale and buy 20 at a time. I actually start to get nervous if there are only a few left in the refrigerator. My husband has decided he likes them as well, so I have to make sure there are enough around for both of us and that I don't miss out on my daily "fix".

food obsessions

-Perky Jerky (sweet and spicy) have to have it everyday.

-skinnypop popcorn, I usually have two cups a day

-Quest Protein bars, chocolate chip only.

Other obsessions

-online shopping, I challenged myself not to buy anything for the month of February. I failed, it only lasted about two weeks. I justify it by saying I'm paying cash instead of credit.

-interior decorating-a serious passion and lastly,

-flower gardening. I live in the Midwest so I only have a few months to enjoy this passion, May can't get here fast enough!

-Quest Protein bars, chocolate chip only.

!

You may already know this, but if you slice up Qwest chocolate chip bars and bake on cookie sheet, they come out just like Cookies.

That might not have been helpful

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
