Stall post-complications!

Recommended Posts

I had major complications and lost 70lbs over 6 weeks. I know that I was severely malnourished and dehydrated for 6 weeks so I expected a little gain once my stents were removed and I stopped constantly vomiting....but I gained 4lbs in the last 3 weeks that I'm back home and eating and drinking!

And even though I started back @ gym this week (slowly bc I'm still a bit weak and weary) I'm not budging at all on the scale. Any suggestions?? I'm only 3 months post op and I am not ready for the scale to stop!!!

I'm getting in my 60g of Protein and fluids! Help!

Wow 70 lbs in 6 weeks. I'd think you'd want to gain your strength back before doing anything, even going to the gym. You need to recover fully. I would say to continue getting your Protein and maybe do some walking. I hope you take it easy and recover.

None of us lose at a constant or steady rate.

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process.

That said, 60 grams of Protein seems really low. Especially for someone who is still healing. You MAY need to up your Protein.< /p>

Have you talked to your NUT about your concerns?

Your body is reacting to the malnourishment. It will even out again. Give yourself time to heal.

Your body is trying to heal. 70 pounds in 6 weeks is major trauma to your body. Please let your body heal. Follow your program and the weight loss will come.

60g is what NUT said I needed. I had a leak that wasn't discovered until I was septic a few weeks postop. I end up in hospital a little over two weeks and then at my parents house under their care almost like a home health with a nurse coming weekly so that my husband could still work full-time and take care of our small children that are 2 1/2 and nine months old. I was on a pic line for 6 weeks with IV antibiotics and a feeding tube for part of the time until it clogged and they removed it and never put it back. I had three separate gi stents placed and had an adverse reaction to them… where any liquid I would intake I would vomit back up within hours for 6 weeks--which is why I had the rapid weight loss. For the most part I feel significantly better still battling some mental brain fog some memory loss… I'm sure from the trauma… And some weakness and weariness. I would absolutely have the surgery all over again. I did this to give myself and my children a better life and that is still my primary goal… I just might pick a different surgeon if I could do over! I don't mean to sound whiny over 4 pounds at all. I think my main concern is I feel a little cheated that I wasn't able to follow a plan exactly and start working out soon after my surgery… Instead I was dealing with complications. I just don't want to see the weight-loss stop now and not get the strong smaller body I was hoping for (that I paid for!). I am currently looking for a surgeon who is willing to take me on for postop care as I'm not comfortable going back to mine. He did not handle my complications the way we thought he should have.

Your body needs to rest, and heal. You no doubt lost a lot of Fluid and lean mass you sorely needed. If you can get your Protein and fluids, in, that's fantastic. Stay off the scale. Do some walking, be gentle with yourself, please!

Thank you everyone for your feedback! I am def still healing. I am only weighing once a week so I am hoping that eases my anxiety a bit. The muscle mass loss I feel is the one of the things that may set me back a bit weight-wise while I regain strength. Very grateful for the resources and support in these forums!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
