6 months post OP and I'm kinda stuck in the process

Hey there fellow sleevers,

My name is Will. I had the sleeve surgery on October 13,2015. I weighed 429 I believe day of surgery. I weight 376 now presently. I did fine with the purée stage and all of that. I try my best to work out and Eat right. I don't know if I'm just gonna have to loose the weight slowly according to my body. But I'm really upset I haven't lost more. I know it's no quick fix but I am trying hard. I don't know if I need to start Vitamins and Protein Shake back or what. I eat the stuff I want but it much smaller portions. Anyone pls pls help me. I don't wanna gain it all back. I'm just depressed and gotta find a way to make this help me and not hurt me. To help y'all help me better I'll answer some of your ?s. I don't record my food intake every day. I have a Fitbit h r and try to track it on there , I don't do Protein Shakes like I should. I did well at the beginning. I do walk and go to the gym pretty regular. Roughly 6500-7500 steps daily. I have sweet cravings from time to time but don't eat all of the bad etc. I know I can do this and so I just have to put my mind to it. Thanks again for the help and letting me vent

Do you log your food?

Do you weigh and measure your food?

Do you eat Protein first?

Are you making your Protein goals?

How many calories are you eating each day?

You kinda can't just eat what you want only less. You have to eat healthy.

Get back touch with your Bariatric team. They will be able to analyze what's going on with you and your journey.

Please, give them a call, make an appointment and come back here and let us know their recommendations. We really care. We're just not familiar enough with your program to be of any real help. We can only generalize.

You and your journey probably just need a little "tweaking".

You can do this. You already are... :)

Thank you very much. I soooo wanna do this thing. My wife n I really want another child but it's on me as to y we can't. My surgeon has recently left Have an appt w new surgeon April 11. Thanks again.

Can you talk with your Nut. before then? I'm thinking that you might not need a surgeon other than to get acquainted since he/she is new to you (which is a very good thing) . I'm thinking your diet/menu routine needs some tuning up.

DO keep your appointment with the surgeon by all means, but I'd advise you to speak with your nutritionist as soon as you can so you can get the train back to full steam!

Like " The Little Engine That Could"-----"I think I can. I think I can".

I agree with the others.

Are you tracking your food?

Are you reaching your Protein goal every day?

Are you drinking at least 64 oz of Fluid every day?

Are you avoiding starches, added sugars, and fried foods?

Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements every day? (You mention starting your Vitamins back. What does that mean? Did you stop taking vitamins?)

Are you exercising regularly?

If you are not where you want to be, I would suggest making an appointment with your NUT to talk about your goals.

Thanks for all the advice friends. I know I can do this but it's really hard for me for some reason. Just need a lot of prayer. Really not thinking insurance will pay for a second surgery. I need to get with the program and I will do that. How much do y'all think I should have lost by now. I had surgery in October 15

You should have lost exactly the amount that you lost.

Our weight loss journey is a personal one that shouldn't/can't be compared to anyone else's.

WLS programs are as different as the individuals who participate in them.

From time to time we probably all have had to hit the "reset" button or have deserved a wee bit of a kick in the bum to "re-motivate" . I still believe a chat with your Nut., and you will be "full bore ahead".

WLS is not a contest, it is a journey. Relax. Take a deep breath..

Howdy Will.

Man, we share some stats.

October 13, 2015 was also my surgery date. So grateful for it, too, because there was a fear that I'd have to wait until later in the year....or beyond for insurance approval. I was able to cut through all the delays and so happy for this.

Anyway....you've lost a solid chunk and will surely lose more. I think that we are put in the drivers seat with WLS and can steer the vehicle wherever we choose to go.

On the date of surgery I weighed 422.

A couple of things that have really been key for me:

I never stopped taking Vitamins.

I routinely use Protein shakes as Meal Replacements.

I do not eat "stuff I want in smaller portions". I stick to Proteins.....and mainly those with low carbohydrate content (not breaded or slathered with sugary sauces). I've found that I now have more "cravings" for salmon, chicken, fish, steak and etc than I ever had for Snickers bars and ice cream.

The thing that I seem to be struggling with is getting consistent on formal exercise. Back pain issues reoccur and I have to be careful when and how I push it. In the process of getting another round of PT & spine injections to address this now. I do walk way more on my job and in general life than before wls.

My sleeve tolerates my daily coffee really well thus far. It also tolerates a few adult drinks on weekends.

Anytime I've had slower periods of loss.....or even a gain of a couple pounds.....I have been able to pinpoint my exact behaviors that led to it. This has given me great confidence for controlling my weight for the rest of my life. I have adopted the behaviors of dietary intake monitoring....calories, types of calories, ensuring I get the macros I'm targeting.....frequent weigh ins......corrective dietary actions from doing so.......portion control......parking very far from any entrance and hoofing it, etc.

You are in the driver's seat, my friend. Your sleeve can offer restriction to slow your roll on your prior eating amounts.....surely it does this. It can, however, do so much more. Hopefully you are free of hunger now and can take full advantage of this to simply feed your body what it needs......not what your old cravings conjure up.

@@Dub that was a really inspiring thing to write to Will for it inspired me too!

It's all about food choices and being aware of behaviors and foods cause you to gain, and what behaviors and foods allow you to lose.

I think pre planning and sticking eating my journaled foods I enter on My Fitness Pal helps me as well. This way you are able to see your nutritional plan for the whole day. I have realized that if I journal on My Fitness Pal and add my food entries as I eat during the day I do not lose the way I should.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...
