Anyone have to take a Pre-Op Class

Recommended Posts

Yes, my surgeon requires a "pre op bootcamp" in the two weeks before surgery. We heard from the bariatric practice nurse, exercise physician, dietitian, and the nurse in charge of the bariatric surgery floor at the hospital. We had to take notes and participate in a group test on what we learned at the end of class.

If I remember right it was about four hours, and then we all went and got our blood drawn for final labs after class.

I would ask your surgeon or insurance company for details on what the class is. My surgeon's group has us take a nutrition class (in addition to the insurance required monthly appointments with a NUT). But that class isn't scheduled until AFTER everything gets submitted to insurance for approval.

One thing I have noticed on the forum is that the requirements vary greatly from between both insurance policies and surgical groups.

They signed me up for the class and said I had to take it. On the paper they call it "Pre-Operative Bariatric Education Class" it's an hour and a half long. there's also a fee for this class lol. There's a class after the surgery too but that's free.

I was required to do 3 pre-op classes (only done once per month) for BCBS Fed employees. They were nutrition classes for bariatric patients.

there's a fee for my nutrition class. because the NUTs can't bill insurance companies (or at least most insurance companies won't pay for NUT appointments, even though they require medically supervised weight loss periods) so the fee they charge for this class actually covers all my appointments with the NUT and the class

I have to take a class after I get my surgery date - it's a pre-op nutrition class. This is in addition to the monthly visits during the 3-month supervised diet. It's my surgeon's requirement, not my insurance company's.

Yes I have to take a 2 hour pre-op class and was told there is a $300 fee that is not covered by my insurance that I have to pay at the time of the class. I'm scheduled for 4/25

I think mine is the same thing. Required my the surgeon not the insurance.

. Oh wow your class is expensive. Mine is $60 also due at the time of the class and it's payable to the hospital not the surgeons office. I don't have a date yet but the told me to expect by the end of April as well. I'm so eager to get a date so I can make it real in my head and plan accordingly.

Opps I just re-looked at my paperwork and I was wrong. My fee is $200 not $300.....so Yay! but still high. But at this point I just want it done! :-)

I have to do 4 weeks of class after a day long intake. Then several classes after surgery. Thankfully all of the classes are part of the package and aren't additional charges. I'm sure I'm paying for it somehow :) My classes are in Ft. Wayne IN

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
