scaredandexcited 5 Posted March 25, 2016 I have been told the only diet I need to follow is to cut out sugar and fat but can carry on eating as much as I do (just 24hr liquid before op ) Having seen everyone talk about low carb high Protein or even all liquid diets im wondering if this will make recovery harder has anyone else followed a similar pre op please Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
KindaFamiliar 3,867 Posted March 25, 2016 Shouldn't make too much difference... As always, your surgical team know better than anyone else... So if that's what they say, that's what you do...
jane13 2,256 Posted March 25, 2016 yes exactly - follow your surgical teams pre-op requirements~
Donnaf516 2 Posted March 29, 2016 (edited) I asked about this today and my surgeon said I only need to do liquids 24 hours before the surgery. So strange how things can be so different. Edited March 29, 2016 by Donnaf516
Sharon1964 2,530 Posted March 29, 2016 My surgeon doesn't do a preop diet either. He says if you could lose weight on your own, you wouldn't need him.
Sharon1964 2,530 Posted March 29, 2016 Oops, forgot the rest of the question. I don't think the presence or absence of a preop diet would have much effect on recovery.
Micoxv 276 Posted March 29, 2016 I did not do any prep-op diet either. My surgeon told me it was a way to keep people motivated for weight loss while they wait for insurance approvals. Anyway, it can't hurt to do a diet and no food funerals prior to surgery. I am just wondering if people on liquid diet for a couple of weeks prior the surgery don't reach a stall /plateau sooner?
