Hey y'all. :-) My name is Summer. I'm a 32 yr old married mama of 4 that is just starting my VSG journey. I have spent the last year with my primary trying to loose weight and lower my BP with very little luck so she referred me to Texas Bariatric in Rockwall and I have my first consultation on April 11th.

I have struggled with my weight for 22 years. I was always 50+ lbs over weight as a kid with being 160 lbs in 6th grade. At 24 two years after my 1st son was born I was at my highest weight of 398 lbs and wearing size 26/28 pant and 4X top. I was at home with a 2 yr old and a deployed husband and basically didn't eat for the 15 months he was gone and lost weight getting down to 225 lbs. Within a few weeks of him returning I got pregnant with baby #2 and then had #3 & #4 all within 4 yrs. I have tries every diet out there, joined a gym, worked out 1 to 2 hrs a day 5 times a week and I loose 20-30 lbs only to gain it right back and sit where I am at every time. I currently have back issues, high BP/hypertension, sleep issues, Migraines and knee issues.

I am really excited to start this new journey, get healthy, loose this weight and be there for my kids.

HW - 398

CW - 280

GW - 150

Welcome! We have a lot in common! I also have 4 kiddos, and was right around your current weight when I had surgery. My surgery weight was 278. My initial goal was also 150. I found that I easily reached that and kept pushing forward. I was also close to your age when I had surgery - I was 33. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. It has been so awesome for my kids to see everything I've accomplished and my whole family has changed their eating habits. We no longer keep "junk" in the house and we're all able to be active together. I think you're going to be so pleased with the changes beyond the scale that it brings to your life and your family. Good luck to you!

Welcome to the club and good luck on your journey. I started out at 286, and was 268 on the day of surgery. I'm now down to 197 after just over 5 months. Still need to loose about 55 more pounds. I too wish I had done this sooner. I'm 52 and have been overweight since my freshman year in college. I put on the freshman 50 instead of the 15. I'm sure this will be great for you and your family. You should get plenty of exercising chasing after 4 kids.

Congrats on taking the first step! You'll do great! I fluctuated a lot from the time I was little (always overweight) until I started this journey last year. I was sleeved November 2015 and it's definitely the best decision I've ever made health wise. Being able to be more active and keep up with my kiddo is by far the best part.

HW 340lbs. SW 259lbs. CW 199lbs.

Still a ways to go but definitely doing my best to enjoy the ride. Good luck girl!!!

I haven't used this forum in forever. But wanted to check in. I ended up having my VSG surgery on 11/21/16 I was 298.6 at my first consult 4/11/16, 265.8 the morning of surgery and as of today 3 days from being 9 months post op I'm at 175!! I'm in a size 12 pant from a 24W and in either a women's L shirt or juniors XL down from a 3X! I am off all my BP meds, have tons more energy and just overall really happy I had my surgery. My new tool has been amazing. IMG_20170818_133916.jpg

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
