New to the group

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I'm totally new to this group. Saw my Doc klingman at the University of maryland Baltimore for the first time. Is anyone familiar with him ?. I'm just starting my nutrition class. Right now I'm trying to take the Vitamin and eat right as well as keeping track of what I eat. I'm so open to any advice I could benefit from. Thanx

How is the food tracking and diet working out for you? It gets easier. What are your stats?

I feel like the Vitamins am taking is making me eat even more. But today was the first day I'm trying to put my foot down to break that habits. I bought one at GNC and it makes me nauseous and i switch to ONE A DAY WOMEN, which makes me get hungry.

Oh okay. Yea my Nutrition class I had told me what type of Vitamins to get.. No Gummy or women's.. Not enough nutritional value and to much sugar. Centrum 50+ is what I use. I used to use the chewable ones but ugh those were nasty. I take Calcium B12 and B1. I didn't start til after surgery. My pre op diet was a little hard but I managed because if they saw a gain.. You wouldn't qualify for the surgery.

Yea that's usually how it goes everyone's insurance is different though. I didn't have to lose a lot but when you gain it's showing them you can't stick to the lifestyle change WLS requires

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
