Fatty McFatster 888 Posted March 26, 2016 I've also gained about 8-10 pounds in the last week. I guess it is due to all of the swelling, etc.
Bluesky1 191 Posted March 26, 2016 Probably, but also of they were giving you iv's in the hospital..that often adds Water weight. I was 10 lbs heavier after my last two surgeries, but it went away after a few days at home. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
SassyNanny 311 Posted March 26, 2016 Did your Dr say if WLS surgery caused it? Is this a cautionary tale about drinking Water? Feel better soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted March 26, 2016 @@Cowgirl Jane (who posts here) and a friend of mine in real life who's also struggling with passing kidney stones now said they both gained weight and that it's temporary. My girlfriend said her urologist said that when a kidney stone is stopping up the works the kidneys struggle to release much urine from the body. The weight gain is from liquids your body is having a hard time getting out. When the stone(s) are all gone and all the channels are cleared, you'll lose the temporary Water weight. Makes perfect sense, eh?
SassyNanny 311 Posted March 26, 2016 (edited) Ann is the stone a direct result of WLS? Will adequate Water stave off this horrifically painful thing from happening? Edited March 26, 2016 by SassyNanny
VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted March 26, 2016 My friend in real life hasn't had WLS. I have no idea if WLS is implicated in the creation of kidney stones. Why don't you google "What causes kidney stones"? I bet you'll find, among other things, that there are many different kinds of kidney stones caused by many different things and multiple intersecting factors. And certainly drinking a lot of Water (64-80 ounces of Water a day consistently -- not just every once in a while) helps a body in many ways. @@CowgirlJane says that her urologist says that from now on she's supposed to drink water with lemon juice throughout the day. Here's the thread Cowgil Jane started to describe her own kidney stone "adventure": http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/362162-the-second-most-painful-experience-of-my-lifeomgthis-was-bad/?hl=%20second%20%20worse%20%20pain
Fatty McFatster 888 Posted March 26, 2016 No it's not a direct result from WLS because I had kidney stones 6 times before I had WLS in November.
Fatty McFatster 888 Posted March 26, 2016 Yes lemon juice helps with certain types of kidney stones. And tea has been found to cause certain types of stones. I'm not sure what my 8mm stone was made of, but will find out more in 4 weeks. Just hate I have to have this stent in for that long.

CowgirlJane 14,260 Posted March 26, 2016 No one has suggested it is WLS related. My urologist is curious about it and actually wants to do more tests on me. Anyway, it is known that drinking at least 2 liters of Water daily helps prevent them. Ann is right, I gained 7#I think. It took 4 days after stent was removed to see weight drop. OP probably will have a not so great month weight loss, but it's just temporary. It does seem like an epidemic on these forums. I have been reading for 5 years and don't recall it coming up before the last month, so I think coincidental. Ann is the stone a direct result of WLS? Fatty McFatster 888 Posted March 26, 2016 I know I don't drink enough Water. That is something I've struggled with even before WLS. I think I need to start focusing more on it. I appreciate everyone that has offered advice and concern. This is my 7th time with kidney stones and each time hurt like hell, but this time has been the worst due to the size, surgery, and stent. I'm also still urinating a lot of blood and passing broken stones. I know it will get better in time, but anyone that has had kidney stones knows how awful they are and you want to feel better NOW!! LOL.
