FMcF,

Do you think for a moment that you've been out of anyone's thoughts and prayers? Your good cheer and degree of up-ness have built your own fan base. You'll be back at your best before you know it. Brave little soldier, soldier on.

I'm sorry you'r hurting. As a Christian, my go to is praying to the Lord for peace and comfort in the pain...it has helped to get me through many times.

Also, can you ask for more pain medicine? Maybe that will help the pain so you can sleep.

I am a Christian as well and couldn't have said it better.

I'm maxed out on the pain meds right now and have to wait 4 hours in between doses.

So glad you have the Lord. He is our strength. You are in my prayers.

Just some thoughts...I'm an 8 time surgery girl...and this is what I've learned....

I set my phone alarm for the pain meds, so if I fell asleep

The pain wouldn't get out of hand. Also, if t's to bad they can ask the Dr. To order a bolus (a higer dose to bring the pain under control), or they increase the 4 hr. Amount. All pain doesn't necessarilly go away, but it's so much worse if you're lauing ther suffering.

Also, Very important....make sure they release you with enough and a high enough dose of pain medicine. My last two surgeries they wanted to release me with half the dose of pain medicine that I was on...and I said, no way. I don't want to go home be in so much pain that I end up back in the ER. After a not so easy time...they gave me my same dose that I was on, and something for break through pain.

I still have a whole bottle left, and 1/3 of another. I didn't even need to use it. But, it was there if I needed it.

I hope your stent is more comfortable than mine was! I had it for less than a week and could not sit comfortably that whole time. :( It impacted my work, my daily life considerably.

I wasn't medicated for the removal - it was over fast though. I was shocked how big/long that dang thing was. I guess I didn't really understand what had happened to me during the "surgery"...yikes!

This really is an ordeal! Makes me wonder how people survived it years before we had the treatments... although I have to tell you the thought that a sadist dreamed up that whole stent thing crossed my mind. :(

Wishing you the best!

I don't know if this helps... but I could NOT control pain with regular pain meds alone. If I didn't have ibophrofen at least once a day, the pain would spin out of control no matter how many percasets I took. Same thing happened in the emergency room - they basically knocked me unconscious but I still felt pain until an anti-inflamatory was administered/ This is one of the reasons I went for the surgical procedure, i was worried about staying on IB due to the ulcer risk.

@@Fatty McFatster - how are you doing? Dilaudid (sp?) was my husbands best friend during this time. Make sure the RNS keep you comfortable and like others said don't go home with out the proper meds. Did that once with hubby. Without being too graphic he was passing large clots and it was causing the peristalsis (continuous passing of urine down the ureter) to stop and that was causing a lot of the pain. The ureter is inflamed and that was the purpose of the stent, to keep the urine flowing. According to the urologist the inability to have the "flow" cause the pain, not the actual stone. Now if the stone BLOCKS passage then the stone is the enemy...

praying for you - -

I'm praying you are going to recover quickly with as little pain as possible. Hopefully they will find out what the problem is, why that happened to you.

Thank you all so much for the love and support. I'm not sure what I've shared so far (since I'm doped up on pain meds), so I apologize if I repeat myself.

I was discharged from the hospital around noon yesterday with 5 prescriptions (pain, pain, nausea, antibiotic, and OTC stool softener). I am still in lots of pain and urinating lots of blood. Have to take pain med every 4 hours or it becomes unbearable.

The laser broke up the 8mm stone and he got most of it, but it was really hard and sharp causing a lot of damage to my urethra. It has also caused a tremendous amount of pain and swelling in my testicles. (Feels like someone has been kicking me over and over in the groin area).

I have a stent in and I have to leave it in for 4 weeks (and it too causes a lot of pain).

So I'm pretty much bed ridden for at least 1 week as my surgeon doesn't want me doing anything at all in order to allow things to heal a little and swelling to hopefully go down.

Thanks again to all of you for your thoughts, prayers, and kind words. They mean the world to me!!!

Thank you all so much.

I'm still in a TON of pain even though I'm taking a pain pill every 4 hours.

I actually just passed another separate stone about an hour ago.

This is NO fun!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
