So, at any point during the two week liquid diet (4 Protein Drinks, broth, Water, crystal light) does your brain stop craving food?

I'm on day 3, and hoping the mourning doesn't last the whole time. I know most of it is head hunger, but I am just wanting to prepare myself if it doesn't get better.

I am on day 3 of my liquid diet and I am just trying to keep myself busy. I am hungry but it seems to be better today. I go for a walk at night and go to bed by 9:00. It is helping. Good luck to you. You can do it!

It really, really does. I'm on day 10, and while I still get cravings for specific things here and there, the overwhelming feeling of "oh my god I'm hungry and could eat everything" is mostly gone. The hardest time for me is late at night, so I keep lots of sf popsicles and Jello around to munch until I feel full (it doesn't take nearly as much now! ).

In my program we have a choice of a 2 week special diet which consists of 1 piece of fruit, a dinner consisting of 3 oz. Protein with veggies and the rest of day you have Protein Shake a liquids, followed by all liquids the last day or the 2 nd options of a 9 day liquid diet. I prefer the 9 day liquid diet and just get it done.

This is pre-op? Man, I guess I'm lucky that Kaiser only makes us do liquids the day before surgery.

Kaiser in Oregon requires 2 weeks liquid. I wish I had your Kaiser!

Like I said it is much easier to get used to post surgery. Before it is tough but I am sure you will do well!

I lost 10 lbs during the classes (not as much as I wanted but still a loss). Dr says he would like to see a bit more loss but just not to gain or he will cancel my surgery. My goal is another 10 at least (I've dropped 5 more since seeing him).

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
