Lap band.. To gastric bypass.. And thinking of revision.!

Recommended Posts

In 2008 I did the lap band which I lost around 30kg then had gained due to releasing the pressure of the band due to sinuses mucus blocked my stomach and I was not able swallow even my own saliva. In 2012 I did the band removal and replaced it with gastric bypass.. I lost 20kg and since then my weight is stable ( fluctuate up and down by up to 4kg).

I'm so mad at myself honestly, that I stopped trying to lose weight.

I don't know if I should go for a bypass revision or not?!! Am totally confused and disappointed.

Any one here to help me?!!

My story us similar to yours. ..i lost 30kg in first 2 years and slowly gained it back.

Next month i am having surgery revision to a mini gastric bypass.

My very experienced weight loss surgeon said there is no point trying the sleeve. If the band gas failed the sleeve wont be right.

Also the band has been eroding my stomach, caused a hernia and affected my esophagus. A dangerous and unsafe procedure in my opinion. I can never recomnend the band. ..ive spent so many nights in emergency!!!

Cant wait for the bypass.

I must say chubby peach that i didnt come to the decision of bypass lightly! The mini gastric bypass is the only other reversible procedure. The total stomach stays in your body producing gastric juices for digestion. That is not the case with the sleeve.

What country are you in...i notice you write in kilos. ..thank goodness!! So over the pounds conversion ????

Do the tevision...you are worth it. The band leaves mental scars of failure which is the worst thing about it. Watch some videos by Dr Rutledge...you will see the light!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
