Luvbnanurse 1 Posted August 10, 2007 What helps mine is really good conditioner, it had stopped and I had to have surgery for another reason and it started again and I started deep condtioning again and it slowed it down again, just my 2 cents.
jrobinson 0 Posted August 15, 2007 I too experienced major Hair loss. I was instructed to add Protein and zinc to my diet. So I purchased a product called Beneprotein (you can buy it from the internet if you can't find it at your pharmacy) and I take a zinc tablet everyday. The hair loss has stopped and is slowly coming back. Give it a try. The nutrionist said due to the problems eating meat, we don't get the proper protein. Good luck. Kat817 19 Posted August 15, 2007 Good deep conditioning does seem to make the hair either feel thicker, or slows it down, I agree Jaqui!!! jrobinson, that is one theory, but it was not my problem---my Protein levels stayed high. I lost hair when doing Atkins, and I ate nothing but Protein, my issue is something from the shock to the body of the weight loss. Not being able to eat meat, is another issue, that needs to be addressed! Eating hard protein without pain is one way to guage if you are filled properly. Welcome to LBT!!! kaboom 13 0 Posted August 22, 2007 Well ladies, I'm glad I am not the only one. My started about the 4th month and then was ok. Now I'm in my 8th and it started all over again and REAL bad. I too have to scrub the tub and sink because it falls out in chunks. My bf told me that he was real worried because he could see Patches of baldness and my hair was really thin. Of course I worried and started up again with Nioxin. Ladies, try this product, its a good product. I bought the level 4 and level 8 for advanced thinning. Buy the Shampoo, conditioner, scalp treatment and the follicle oil don't use anything else for awhile no irons nor gel. My hair is pretty frizzy so I understand the necessity of these thing, but just tough it out. In addition to that use the hydrating mask twice a week. After about 4 days I noticed that the amount falling out wasn't as bad as it had been. Hopefully this lessens as time goes on. Try it and see if it works for you! I'll keep updating as my treatment goes on. LJS69 0 Posted August 23, 2007 I recently had my 6 month check up and the dietician was concern I wasn't eating enough Protein (should be eating 60 grams per day). She told me that was one of the side effects of a protein deficiency. They sent me to the lab to have my blood levels checked and it turned out I was fine - all the levels are okay. Another problem may be an underactive thyroid.
short1 2 Posted August 23, 2007 Sorry to hear about everyone's Hair loss. I was banded Aug. 15 and fear having hair loss. My hair dresser said there is not much that can be done if the body decides to let it go. She sugessted using nioxin Shampoo. I asked my dietician several times about this possibility and she said it is very rare for lap band patients to loose their hair. Well maybe she needs to talk to all of you. I am getting mine trimmed tomorrow and hope for the best. Good luck to all. JP

So far it appears that about 50% of us lose hair to some degree. One of the MANY reasons banding was better for me than bypass was that I too, thought hair loss was limited to bypass folks. That was soooo wrong.

Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted August 25, 2007 I wish someone who has been banded for over a year would come in here and tell us when it stops. I am almost at 8 months now and it's not slowing down at all.

Ditto. An article I read a couple of weeks ago by a bariatric surgeon said it can last as long as through month 11. I'm coming to terms with it. If I lose too much I'll get a hair piece or a wig. I'd rather do that than be a heifer all my life.
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted August 26, 2007 If it stops at month 11, I will be thrilled. My fear is that it's just going to keep falling out.
WASaBubbleButt 41 Posted August 26, 2007 I went to pick up my 2nd tube of Density Therapy Shampoo today. While I recognize it really isn't going to do anything at least I feel like I'm doing something about it.
Susie313 0 Posted August 27, 2007 Mine started falling out around the 2nd month after banding and stopped after the 7th. Now I have fuzzy ends sticking up everywhere but I'm very grateful for the fuzz. Hang in there, it does stop falling out. Same thing happened after a caeserian delivery 38 years ago. I never did recover completely though. I'll take any amount of regrowth at this point. Susan
angiebell 0 Posted August 27, 2007 Mine has been falling out for 2 years but new ones grow back. It is a pain because the bathroon floor is alway covered in hair. I just cut off 8" from my hair and it still falls out. You just have to learn to live with it. When the new ones stop growing back in then I will worry!
