lap band complications?

Recommended Posts

Help!! I was banded three years ago in July and have terrible pain in my abdomen. Had ultra sound and it showed no problem with gall bladder or colon. I am now scheduled for an upper GI series. Can this work with the band?? Doesen't that chalky Fluid have a hard time going through the band? I do still feel restriction and have lost 85 pounds, however the last time I had a fill wqs a year ago July. Anyone have answers or

similiar experience?

That makes me feel a whole lot better. I wasn't thinking it was barium that they were going to give me, but you are right.

Thanks again.

Hi, I've had my band for 2years now but just this past week I have been experiencing serious nausea with vomitting and headaches. Do you know anything about this?

Hi

you could be eating too fast or not chewing food enough. I had a ultrasound and there is no problem with my colon or gall blader. Wed. I get an upper GI to see if there is an ulcer. Right now I get mostly pain in my abdomen.

Be really careful with the vomiting - is it the food backing up or digested food coming back up?

Peggy

Cherry- it could be unrelated to the band too, you could just have a stomach bug or something... be careful not to jump to conclusions

Peggy, I don't know what to tell you, I also am 3 years out, but I don't have alot of pain like you describe. I went through a period of pain in the upper right of the abdomen but gall bladder checked out fine and my doctor couldn't find anything with xrays and it eventually went away... I'll go to a different doc if it ever comes back, just to be sure, but who knows.

Hope you get an answer soon. Mystery pain is REALLY annoying.

Thanks for responding, I have an appointment with a GI specialist to see what is the problem is, keeping my fingers crossed that it is not the band.

Peg,

I've been banded 2 1/2 years and I have occasionally had abdominal pain that doctors have been unable to explain. I've already had my gall bladder out, so that's not it. After having all the tests and just living with it, I studied when it came on. I discovered it seemed to come on after eating certain foods or possibly from not chewing well enough.

Everyone's feelings and sensations from having the band and his/her body's reactions are a little different. It's possible that yours is telling you something about your habits. Let's hope there's nothing seriously wrong such as erosion.

Good Luck,

Thank you for your comment. Guess I will know after Wednesday. You are right, it isn't there all the time. I watched and it seems to be at times when I am stressed, but always after eating. Thats why they are looking for an ulcer.

Not sure if this is in the correct spot but I have a new problem. I was banded April 12 2007 and I have lost 35 lbs. I am starting to notice that I am losing hair. I notice hair everplace now. I have alot of hair so I really don't notice it on my head but it is coming out and I am getting worried about it this has gone on for a month or more now. I read that this can be a problem in rapid weigh loss but I don't think 35 lbs in 4 month is too rapid. I take my Vitamins and have protien at all meals and have a shake everyday. Does anyone have this problem and if so what has it been like for you? How much protien should I get to keep this from happing? I asked my Doctor about Protien but he was not real clear and that was before I noticed the Hair loss.< /p>

Thanks :help:

I believe that I am not chewing my food enough also, but only this past 2 weeks I have started experiencing these problems. I called my doc and he said my band may be too tight, which I don't understand because I only had 2 fills and haven't had one in over a year. I will try to go to my doctor in Mexico and find out the problem because it seems to be getting worse.
