Calories and protein intake

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. This is my first post. I had GB on the 14th. I'm really fatigued, which I understand is normal. But it's to the point where if I go for a walk I have to sleep afterward. Shower...sleep afterward. I had an epiphany and thought it could be due to low cal intake. I have 1 Premier Protein shake 11oz/30g, 1 Isopure drink 20oz/40g, usually a Popsicle and a sugar free Jello with sips of Water in between equaling 20-22oz. It's about 400 calories. Is this normal at this stage?

Thanks for the feedback

Sounds about right for 1 week post-op. Your body has undergone major trauma and needs to heal. Inflammation in your stomach should go down fairly quickly so try and add in another Protein shake to get more Protein, Fluid and calories. (Even if you only got in 1/2 of a Premier Protein Drink that would be 80 more calories and 15g protein which would help. Hang in there!!

You are going to be tired for a while. Your body is healing from major surgery. The sooner you can get in all of your Protein and fluids, the better you will feel. Be gentle with yourself, and rest if you need to. It does get better.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
