Fist Stuck In My Throat?? What Is That All About????

Recommended Posts

OMG! I just had my first fill and right after the doc put in 4 cc in my 10 cc ap band, i couldn't swollow water! It was gurgling in my throat and he could hear it from across the room. He immediately laid me down, poked me (no, this is not a cheap romance novel..((i couldn't resist!! haha))) and took out 1 cc....then the Water went down..but it didn;t go down super easy. That was on a monday...I could not drink water comfortably until Thursday (almost a week later, i can drink liquids except carbonated things). I talked with the nurse and she said to take smaller sips and not to have real cold liquids.

...so, i would really like some answers from you more experienced bandsters...1st..why do I feel an occasional ball in my throat immediately with a gulp of water or a chunk of food (even happened with a bite of banana). why in my throat vs my stomach?? why is there a restriction in the back of my throat?? that just makes no sense to ma at all!!! (somethimes if i can understand something, I can deal with it)..

I can eat a whole baked potato right now..when i am at my most restricted...how much of that potato could i eat at one setting? (just to give me an idea of the changes i am in for) thanks!!:kiss2:

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
