Hi everyone,

I have a question if you have the money and didn't need insurance to cover some of your surgery would you still do the 6months wait with the NUT and all of that or would you do self pay and could get your surgery in few weeks?

Am just wondering which way you guys would go with..

Thx.

I probably would have jumped in and got it done in a couple of weeks, which my friend did do. Shes absolutely fine and did the research on her own. But I'm glad I went through the whole process cuz it semi prepared me 4 what I was going to go through with this life changing decision. 4 weeks out and I'm still learning

If money was not an issue and I didn't need to use my insurance, I would have gone forward with it. I didn't really feel like anything magical happened for me in the 6 months pre-op. Honestly most of my emotional growth has taken place post-op.

If I didn't have to use insurance I wouldn't jump thru all these hoops. I have contemplated self-pay, but my husband says "we have insurance and we are going to use it".

I only had to have a 4 month pre-op regimen, but even so, I would NOT have just gone ahead and scheduled my WLS.

It took me that long to do all of the reading, questioning and prepping myself as well as "my world" for what was coming.

WLS is life changing. What's the rush? Do your research so you will never have to say, "if I had only...".

@@Shanni1269 I agree with your hubby, I just saw the bill submitted to my insurance $13,000 - so I'm grateful for insurance

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
