Congrats and welcome to bandland! I was also banded by Dr. C. The clinic should have given you a pre-op package, in there you will find a list of the foods you can eat at each stage.

The liquid stage can be difficult. Mostly I drank chicken broth, just a half mug at a time, sipping slowly. If you are a tea toddler, a nice mug of tea can be very soothing. Also, try sugar free popsicles or Mr. Freeze. Most importantly. don't forget to drink lots of Water. Crystal light or ice tea can also be refreshing.

As you move onto full liquids, I also found the Signature Soups at Safeway to be fantastic. The Tomato Basil is very good which surprised me because I don't typically like tomato Soup. Protein shakes can be another lifesavor as it is hard to get in enough Protein during the liquid phase.

You are starting a new life now and you will get to know yourself all over again. Good luck and enjoy the journey!!

Andree -- do not be scared to eat -- that was not the purpose of getting banded!

4 days after surgery you can also probably tolerate a little more than Clear Liquids ... the idea is to not eat too much, or too quickly .... Did the clinic you went to give you a diet to follow?? If so do what they said!!

If not, the Dr. I used has a set of "guidlines" on his web site -- they say they are for Gastric Bypass, but they also apply to the band ... so if you need something to follow, then try these (and I believe he is on the very conservative side) then here is a link:

MIS Group

This page tells you how long each stage lasts, and there is a link to the actual "food lists".

Don't be afraid of your band -- let it be your friend :D

I'm into the puree stage and have not had any problems with any of the foods he has recommended -- Good Luck, and keep posting to let me know how you are doing :)

My start of regular food was scambled eggs for Breakfast and tuna fish with all the fixins for lunch. I added ANY Soups I wanted. Then I added crisp bacon with my eggs. I started nibbling on what I would cook for hubby .

I think the key for regular foods is SLOW and SMALL bites . Before you take another bite see how the first little bites feels.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
