Eating everything...

Recommended Posts

So surgery will be in April. I don't have to lose weight for surgery because I lost a lot on my own prior to deciding to have RNY. Anyways I can't stop eating. I feel like after surgery I'll never eat again so I want to eat everything. Anyone else have this happen?! :/ Somedays I still do good and through my 12 weeks of classes I have pretty much stayed the same weight. So I'm not losing but I'm not gaining either...thoughts?!

I would slow down, and start working on my relationship with food, Now!! As much as this journey is physical, the mental part will sneak up on you and it can be hard to deal with. My doctor advised against having a food funeral.. she said why? What is the point? That mentality is why we are here today. Your surgery is a tool that you have to physically and mentally work with. It isn't a cure all on its own. I started enforcing new lifestyle changes immediately. I started meal prepping... walking on my treadmill 3-4 x a week. Building my endurance and stamania.. I stopped drinking 30 minutes before meals and 30 after.. I started making better food choices if I had to eat out.. chewing my food to applesauce consistency... I took this gift very seriously up until I was sleeved this past wendesday.. and even worked harder on myself during the 2 week pre op diet. I would reconsider your choices leading up to surgery. I've seen many struggle after surgery because they didn't think to start enforcing the lifestyle changes prior to surgery. And you can still eat and drink whatever you want, in moderation. One must always be mindful of their eating or you will fail.

A food funeral. LoL! And I know I can do the lifestyle changes. I've kept a huge amount of weight off. It's a total "food funeral". When you exercise you don't have that oh no, I can't eat that you have the I don't want to eat that. I have a total food funeral going on...[emoji30]

While perhaps not the best reaction, I can tell you from these boards that it appears to be fairly normal. Are you seeing a therapist? If not, you might consider doing so (I was and am and still had a food funeral or two...) but it is still something at 9 1/2 months that I struggle with (which is why I am still seeing the therapist).

I am not seeing a therapist and really resolved a lot of my good issues when I began to lose weight. During my classes it has been the most stressful time in my life. I had to send my brother to rehab and lost both grandparents within 3 weeks of each other. And I learned I am not as much of a emotional eater as I had thought I was. Now it's more of being anxious for the surgery and just waiting...and when I eat certain things I think "oh I won't be able to eat this again" so I eat it. I'm at the point where I am so close to surgery I just want it done, and to be over with and start my new life.

You have been through a lot! This surgery brings up a lot of emotions - not just because of change in food but something to do with release of hormones as we lose. I would still suggest that therapy is a very helpful tool in this journey. I wouldn't have gotten so far without mine!

I understand. I ate junk right to the end & didnt lose weight until the last 2 months, despite having a year to preparr. Don't get too caught up in what you will & wont be able to eat post op. I have to say I'm in mournimg of bread, but you just have to make peace with it.

Good luck.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
