I am getting banded on Monday by Dr. Lopez in Tijuana. I am staying at the Lucerna and my procedure is being done at the Lityen. Can anyone give me ANY suggestions or advice. My mom will be with me. Has anyone been to either place? What did you think? What do I need to bring? Will my mom be O.K while I am having surgery? Is Dr Lopez's staff good? Facility clean?

Anyone's feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I have looked at all the posts regarding Dr Lopez and cant seem to find anything regarding the facilities I mentioned. Also nothing about things I should bring etc...

Was hoping for something a little more positive regarding Dr Lopez. Being informed and being scared are two diferent things. The negativity has been getting me down.

Thanks.

This forum is not supported by any doctors. So the posts you find are from patients giving their actual experiences. There are patients that have had good experiences also. I sincerely hope that you've done your research about any surgeon you've chosen to use. There are many, many drs. performing this surgery. It's not just about saving money. We want all band patients to have a positive experience - not only with the initial surgery, but also the recovery, and the follow-up care. You are the only one that can make the final decision on what you choose to do. Best of luck to you!

I stayed at the Lucerna for my surgery..both my husband and I were very pleased with it, it is a beautiful hotel. As far as what to bring...pack light, bring a book for thewating around during pre-op tests..take along Gas X and adult strength liquid tylenol, both of those items came in very handy for me. I also packed a little bag of snack for my husband forall the waiting. ..I really do not want to comment on Dr. Lopez, if you have researched him and feel comfortable with him then thats all that matters. Good Luck to you.

Guess I am just scared.

Hello,

I stayed at the Lucerna hotel as well and it is lovely. I was also terrified when I went down there. That feeling is not unusual. I did a ton of research and chose Dr. Lopez as well for my surgery but almost immediately after I got home a variety of issues have surfaced about him. He doesn't report any problems to Inamed regarding patient problems, several erosions are occurring. We don't know if that is his fault or simply statistics. Many people had trouble getting a hold of him after their surgeries but supposedly that is improving. I recommend you DO NOT use belighter.com as it is a waste of money. All in all I am VERY happy with my surgery and results but I would have probably chosen a different doctor had any of this come to light earlier. Kuri and Ortiz are also supposed to be wonderful. If you go to the Doctors link and do a search on Dr. Lopez you should see a long thread concerning him. I used the Oasis of Hope hospital and was very pleased with it. I haven't heard of the one your staying in. Does it have a website? Just type in the name and do a search. I took my brother along and he was fine. Your mom should pack some Snacks for herself though. I know the hospital I was in was vegetarian only and didn't have ANY vending type foods. Best wishes to you and keep in touch, Teresa

When you get to Mexico you will no longer ask that question, it is not like it was in TJ 20 years ago. I just spent the entire day there on Monday seeing my Dr...its not what you invision I promise you. People say Mexico and everythings the worst..they think dirty , unclean..its nothing like that. You will love the Lucerna, they all speak English, the restaraunt there has the most delicious food and it is very nice! I do not know anything about the hospital...I havent heard of it..I had mine at the Oasis. Good Luck

Thank you both for your gracious tips. I have researched this so much I feel I could do the procedure myself. Just give me the equipment and I am ready to band myself! But seriously, I work in both the medical and legal fields and have made this research my top priority for 6 months. I am sorry that anyone has had a bad experience with any surgeon. I think Dr Lopez has worked on some of the past problems and I can't tell you how comforted I was to have the head of Inamed sing his praises.

Thanks again!!! I am glad I found this site and I hope all will keep an open mind to diferent experiences from diferent people. I am.

Does it seem strange to you guys that this guy has to practice in so many different places? Is he practicing in them simultaneously, or is he moving from one place to another?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
