So I am not a Protein Shake for Meal Replacement fan. I think they taste fine but I am hungry again in 20 mins. Anyhow in an effort to make them seem more filling on my preop diet I changed them up. Can someone tell me if this is a bad plan...

Protein scoop (I use a chocolate one, but will try with other flavors)

3 ounces 1% milk

1.5 cups chopped ice

Stick in bullet and blend until Wendy's frosty consistency, eat with a spoon.

I realize it won't likely work post op as it makes my shake bigger with ice so my 4 ouce drink won't have enough protein in it but for now? Am I just reinforcing bad food habits by trying to trick my head into thinking I am getting a treat?

It's not a cheat!! I say do whatever you need to do to get through the hell that the pre op diet is! I think it's awesome that you found something that works for you. I don't think it's a bad habit at all. Even post op you will find things that work with your program, but may seem like a "cheat". For example; I take shredded cheese and bake it in the oven to make cheese crisps that kinda taste like a cheesy cracker. Makes me feel like I have had a treat but it's a high Protein no carb snack. Being creative and finding things that work for you is what this process is all about!!

Good luck to you!!

I used 1c. Silk almond milk to a scoop and one to one an a half cup of ice. I couldn't drink all that I was suppose to for the day. I had to do it for 3 weeks. I would make a container for what I was to drink for the day. If I felt I needed something it was there.

Could you possibly give me the "how to" on those cheesy crisps? Thank you!

@sawyerx6. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking pan with parchment paper. Take any type of shredded cheese and make use about 1 tablespoon to form little piles a few inches apart. Bake until golden brown. Most recipes I have seen say bake for three or four minutes, but mine usually take closer to 8. Just keep an eye on them. Take out and let cool. They will be kinda round in shape and crispy like a cracker. I have even added some seasoning to my cheese to kinda give it a different flavor.

I don't think it is a cheat at all. There is a book "the bariatric foodie guide to perfect Protein shakes" sold on Amazon for around $12. This book has great recipes using Protein Shakes, sugar free flavoring syrups, sugar free instant pudding, and other items. They have some great recipes in there. My favorite is the butterfingers candy bar drink. I make it with ice to have consistency like a milk shake. Yum!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
