This could also be acid in your stomaching stimulating a hunger feeling. I had this directly after surgery and once on a PPI the hunger feeling went away. I'm 5 weeks post op and really get hungry. Once again, everyone is different so you could be experiencing genuine hunger.

I'm 6 weeks post op. I was hungry a lot the first 2 weeks. I also felt my stomach roiling. A PPI helped a lot.

But at 6 weeks I get hungry. My practice would like me eating 3 meals plus 1 snack. I am eating 3 meals plus 3 Snacks. But I am hitting all the targets-calories, Protein, low carb. And I get satisfied. I'm just hungry again in 2-3 hours.

I've asked about it at every appointment. And been told that the "you won't feel hungry is nota universal truth". Right or wrong, I am telling myself this will make lifetime maintenance harder, and so I will need to pay attention as I progress, to keep bad habits at bay.

But what I really wish I could eat more of is vegetables. Especially raw vegetables (haven't tried any yet). So I have already made progress in changing my needs. And I didn't get fat from eating too many bell peppers. So if I end up eating a lot of veggies as Snacks down the road I doubt it will cause damage.

PPI is a proton pump inhibitor. It is a reflux medication that actually reduces acid production vs controlling it.

Pepcid and Zantac are NOT PPI's. Nexium, Prilosec, Prevacid, etc are.

My tummy is growling as I type. I am trying an extra dose of Mylanta just in case it is acid but it honestly just feels like I need to eat!! Good luck!

Mylanta won't help control acid. You need a PPI (omeprazole or one of the prescription medications like protonix). If you're not on one, you might want to check with your doctor.

I just realized that and started taking the Prilosec that the dr originally prescribed. Not sure why I thought I didn't need it. Tummy noises have been a little better but I am definitely hungry!! I will discuss with the dr at my follow up.

I started full liquid diet today and I can tell you I feel a hundred times better. Not very hungry. My doctor was pretty strict with clear liquids only for two weeks. I think when you move to full liquids it gets better quick. FYI he was very happy with how I was doing[emoji2]

I'm 5 mos post op and I still get hungry at times. Especially at night. I believe it is head hunger rather than real hunger. When I'm watching TV or on the computer I'm somewhat bored and that is when I'm hungry. When I'm working out in the morning and busy I'm not hungry at all. Have to find ways to keep your mind off eating and busy with something else. I work out a lot and my program lets me have a lot more veggies now. There is really nothing I can't have at this point, but I have to stick to Protein if I want to continue to lose.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
