Close to the same starting weight as you. Surgery on 12/16. Down almost 50 lbs. Would you mind sharing some details on your journey? Like when did the loss start slowing down? How long, and often were your stalls?

Would appreciate the insight :)

Hi jeepgrl

The only advice I can give is work on getting all your Protein in everyday. I stayed away from all carbs until I was about 10 months out. Previously I was a big carb eater so I knew adding them back in may be a struggle for me. Surprisingly it has been easier than I thought. When I eat crackers I buy very thin ones and only eat what a serving size is. If it says 4 crackers I only take 4 that's it. Also no bread for me. If I want a sandwich or something with eggs I have a half of a flour tortilla. Before surgery I had heard that after surgery you don't crave the foods you did before. I was a huge bread and chocolate and candy eater. I can honestly say I'm not now. Never craving them either. Another tip is get in all the Water you can. I'm not a big exerciser. I tried going to a gym but that's just not me. My exercise is walking. Sometimes I can get out once a week sometimes I get 4 times a week. Just depends on how busy I am at work. Don't get saddened by stalls. I had quite a few and some lasted for a few months! It's easy to get discouraged but my Dr told me a stall is your body catching up to all the changes and the weight loss. Some people have a week or 2 stall some have a few months stall. I had the few months stalls! I just kept doing what I was doing. I knew I was eating better and it would eventually start again. I stopped getting on the scale as much and judged from how my clothes felt on me. You have done great so far too! I frequently look back at pre surgery and now pictures. That is a big motivator! I can't even remember being so big. My Dr. Did tell me at my 1 year to keep in mind that my stomach is a little bigger now than when surgery was done. It can stretch so to really watch since as you go you can eat more food than when at beginning after surgery so have to watch that too. I have noticed that I used to barely get in 2 oz of chicken but now can eat 3 oz. I also don't obsess over treats. If I'm at a birthday party I have a tiny piece of cake and I'm ok with it. If my daughter makes Cookies I eat a half of one and I'm done. It's not all the time just on special occasions. It helps me to feel included.

Keep going! We got this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
