Sleeved on Monday. Gas pain is terrible!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Monday. I weighed in at 227. This morning I'm at 221. I'm so excited that I'm finally losing weight considering I have hypothyroidism, PCOS and insulin resistance. However, I'm having terrible gas pains in my chest. I'm walking, following the diet, using a heating pad, rubbing my chest, and nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any suggestions?

GasX strips have helped some people as well. The good news is, you are almost out of the woods anyway. The gas pain doesn't usually last more than 4 or 5 days.

I was just sleeved on Tuesday. My gas pain was absolutely incredible the first 2 days. I mean, it'd be safe to call it agonizing, really. I couldn't believe I'd put myself in that much of a painful position. But when it dissipated, it felt incredible.

Oddly enough, the walking did not help much with gas for me. But sipping did! Every time I sipped, it'd displace more of the gas and it felt great to get it out. I'm still burping a bit after I sip now, but the pressure is gone.

Edit: I also used Gas-X strips.

Just like everyone said the gas x strips were God sent for me. Nothing helped other than those! Best of luck.

I didn't use anything to relieve gas... If I felt that pain creeping up I'd take a deep breath and hold it. It would help push the gas to another part of my body and relieve the pain.

That truly has to be the worst part in all this! Hang in there!!! This is going to be the best decision you ever made!!

I was sleeved Wednesday, and my gas didn't get intense until I came home Thursday... walking, hot showers, warming blanket, side to side sleeping and gas x strips have been doing the trick. I've never in my life wanted to pass gas as much as I have these last 2 days. It is like major intestinal relief.. Now if only I could have a BM. Life would be great! ????????

Oh I know your pain! I had RNY on 2/22 and it felt like a heart attack at times! (Or at least what I imagine a heart attack to feel like). Keep walking! You have to let the gas out and it needs to be absorbed back into the muscle and tissue. Walking is the absolute best thing you can do and as an additional helper use the Gas-X strips. My gas lasted almost a week but got better each day. PS during this pain don't forget to drink your fluids because the last thing you want is to become constipated once you introduce Protein back in. Good luck to all of you!

I was shaking my Protein shakes to mix them up real good, and having gas issues made me notice all the froth at the top of the bottle when I did that. I stopped shaking them, and saw reduced gas issues.

Walking didn't seem to help much. Gas-X helped stomach gas, of which there was plenty. The Gas-X strips seemed to be more effective than the chewable tablets. Gas in the body cavity, which made me feel like a beached whale for 4 days, was uncomfortable but not painful for me. Nothing seemed to help that except time. I woke up on the fourth day and it was mostly gone.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
