First post op Dr. Appt!

Had my first appointment since surgery yesterday. I had surgery on the 1st my appointment was the 17th. . I've lost 20 pounds, they said by what they see it looks like 18 pounds of fat and two pounds of muscle. They also did a leak test and they have the machine in the office I was able to see my new tummy and I was able to watch liquids go through it as I swallowed it was really cool. I have to say they did get on to me a little bit because I admitted to them I had cheated and already been eating things like boiled eggs and oatmeal. They don't want anything like that eaten until my full three weeks are up which is Tuesday. The reason they say for this is that they don't want the stomach to have to work at all, they want it to strictly heal. Since I chose them as my doctor I suppose I should listen to what they say and so I promised I'd be a good girl until Tuesday and then I was going to start eating soft food! They also released me to go back to work on Tuesday which is going to be a good thing it will keep me busy. I feel real good today I have for the last couple of days and I'm excited and looking towards the future.

Glad everything seems to be going so well! I loved getting to watch my barium swallow test too. I wish more people got to watch that. I see a lot of posts from people who are concerned that they are going to stretch their sleeve from drinking too much or too fast or are worried that they don't feel restriction with liquids. I think if everyone saw their swallow test and how quickly liquid passes through the sleeve, it would alleviate a lot of their fears.

Great job, especially on pulling back and following directions!

Its funny how differing our post op diets are, I had surgery on a Wednesday and a scrambled egg on Saturday!

I didn't eat oatmeal until about 2-3 months out but that was because it was too hot last summer and I was in a 25' RV for about 3 weeks post-op. I live in Florida.

Good luck and keep in line with your doctors post op guidelines!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
