I have so many emotions going through my head right now, Kiaser hospital called me today and told me my surgery is Monday at 10:20am and I am so excited and yet so scared. I just can't stop thinking about the two ladies in support group that recently went through surgery, one is in ICU now fighting for her life one day after surgery for an infection and the other just passed away yesterday two days after surgery, I have shed many tears.

Oh my goodness! How unusual to see two severe cases of complications so close together. I don't blame you for feeling a little scared after that. Do you know what caused the death of the woman who passed away? I would usually give you my spiel about how the risks from WLS are lower than the risks from knee replacement. But since you've seen severe complications first-hand so recently, I'm not sure that would do much to ease your mind.

I am not sure about the cause but she was young and had two young children. I am still going to go ahead with surgery on Monday, please pray for me????

Definitely praying.

It has got to be sobering and scary seeing complications and death first-hand so close to your surgery date.

According to my surgeon, the biggest risks are pneumonia and blood clots. Just make sure you do everything you are asked to do (walking, breathing with an incentive spirometer, etc.).

I wish you all the best. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

I am out of surgery and doing well. The pain meds are wonderful so I am not experiencing much pain. No nausea, I asked for the patch. I love the ice chips, I just tried to walk to the bathroom and got really dizzy, I need to take it slower. The staff here at Kiaser are amazing!

Yay! Glad to hear you are now on the losers' bench and doing well. Hang in there. The next few days might have some challenging moments. But you can get through and it will be so worth it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
