Getting sleeved in May...looking for buddies / mentor

Recommended Posts

SO my sleeve is scheduled for May 18th. I would really enjoy speaking with anyone getting sleeved in may and perhaps chatting with someone who has had true success with the sleeve.

Any takers?

I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about surgery and the post-sleeve life. I'm going on 19 months post-op, so not a true "veteran" yet, but I have experienced all of the adjustments that living with the sleeve requires and I consider myself to be very successful so far!

Hi! No official surgery date yet, but shooting for May also! Just waiting for my last clearance and then the insurance junk. Happy to be a sleeve buddy!

I have a tentative date of May 3rd. I'm also looking for a buddy. All of my friends/family have never struggled with their weight so I don't have anyone who can relate.

Michael, I am new to this forum and new to the sleeve. My surgery date was 4/11/16. I was scared to make the step toward the sleeve. As you I was always involved in many sports. It just got to the point where I was active and my weigh never moved. I am 38 and my highest weight was 340. That was my active football lineman weight. Lol. I started my two week pre-op diet and lost at least 25 pounds in those two weeks. Mostly by cutting carbs but especially the calories. I even thought about backing out on surgery since my weight was finally going down. But I decided to see through my journey and had surgery. I am one week post op and am down to 288. So far I have no regrets and am here to answer any other questions you may have.

@@NurseMichael how are you doing? There is a private Facebook group if you want more support. I was sleeved on 5/2. And I'm doing great. No regrets. Hope to see you there.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
