I'm vomiting and can't keep anything down — Help!

Recommended Posts

Can anyone give advice on how to stop the vomiting. I started on Nexious two days ago and I thought it would help me. It has solved the heartburn but now I am not able to eat and drink. Will this pass? Is it caused by the tablets?

Honestly, this isn't something a message board can help you with. You need to be in touch with your surgical team (or PCP if you went out of country) and be very assertive in describing what is happening and asking for help. They need to help you. If what you are going through is normal, they can at least help you find ways to deal with it, but IMO lots of vomiting and not being able to keep anything down is not normal. If it is caused by the tablets (they can tell you that, not us), they may be able to prescribe a liquid version of the medication that would be easier to tolerate. Good luck!

I agree with Thelma (Bufflehead); contact your doctor.

It may be nothing serious, but they have the medical experience to make that judgment.

Hope you feel better soon. Keep us posted.

If you can't keep liquids down, you need urgent medical attention.

I hope that everything is sorted out quickly for you.

Thanks all for the comments, I know I need a surgeon if this continues. It is not so easy for me we don't get the aftercare you guys get in the USA and my Doctor is a six hour drive away so I thought someone who had the same experience as me might be able to give comfort. Good news was I managed to keep half a tin a chicken Soup down last night and I am working my way through Vitamin drink this morning. Praying it will get better. Thanks again for your kindness in responding.

That was the first thing I wanted to suggest, is to try smaller portions. If you feel sick when you drink a Protein shake, just drink half of it. Consume slowly, if you feel full, stop. I have not actually vomited, but my stomach capacity is drastically reduced from before the operation. I find I get full about 3/4 of the way through an 11oz Protein Shake At first I tried to finish them, but I'd feel nauseous, so then I just stopped at 3/4 and I don't get nauseous or feel discomfort. I think we need to approach eating/drinking cautiously with a tiny and tender tummy.

Went back to my surgeon, I had a stricture at the bottom of the sleeve. He performed dialation with the ballon. Sore throat but could drink tons better today and no heartburn or vomitting but there is no guarantee it will work permanently so please keep me in your prayers. Happy Easter.

Glad you were able to see your surgeon and they were able to fix your stricture. Take it easy and I hope it is a "permanent" fix :) Happy Easter!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
