So I'm getting close to my surgery for Gastric Sleeve which is causing me to become obsessed with blogs and youtube. I keep hearing about hair loss! I'm getting super stressed out...my hair is already super thin on the top because of hypothyroidism and obesity. I'm worried there will be nothing left! Is it time for me to start researching wigs??

I am only a month out, so haven't lost a lot of hair - and putting Protein powder or powdered milk on *everything* in hopes - because my hair is fine and thin anyway. I think stressing over it would make it worse, so try to let go of that.

I did find the number of a well regarded wig place locally just in case I need it and I figure even if I lost all my hair it would be worth it to not have the comorbidities associated with my obesity.

I'm almost a year out. The hair shedding is unavoidable but it's not severe. It's not that bad and it will grow back when your weight stabilizes.

I'm also really trying to make sure I get in a good habit of getting enough Protein in but I hear even with that hair still sheds. It's looking like wig shopping it is!

I definitely still want the surgery even if I have to be a little bald for a while. Just the way it is I guess.

I lost some hair, but I saved myself from premature disability and death. My quality of life 4 years post sleeve is so much better!! I haven't needed a wig, but if I did, it would be worth it.

BTW, get enough Protein, watch for zinc and other deficiencies, but sometimes you lose hair no matter what. It grows back.

i am not a big believer in Biotin because it doesn't prevent loss, just accelerates regrowth. I don't really want accelerated regrowth anywhere else - so I avoided it. Read up on it because there are some who regret their heavy doses of Biotin.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
