sgc 538 Posted March 16, 2016 I have finally decided to start the process of weight loss surgery and have decided on the sleeve. Looking for a doctor and basically how this process will go. My primary care doctor highly recommended Dr. Hawasli. I call his office to make an appointment and always get a voicemail. Left a voicemail with no call back yet. It makes me uncomfortable that it's a bit difficult to make an appointment. Is this common? I guess I'm not sure the point of the person who answers the phone just to transfer me to a voicemail. I also had a recommendation for Dr Pesta. Both of these doctors seem to get good reviews online. Not sure what to look for in a doctor or where to start. I like my primary care doctor so I value her recommendation. A couple employees in her office had the surgery with Dr Hawasli and they are thin.
DaisyAmy 561 Posted March 16, 2016 I'm a big fan of the Beaumont program. I had Dr Chengelis and he was wonderful, but so much of your care is through the weight loss center and I absolutely love it there. I go through Troy.

I had Dr Chengelis and he was wonderful, but so much of your care is through the weight loss center and I absolutely love it there. I go through Troy. I looked up Beaumont's program and saw Dr Hawasli was listed. I thought he was with St Johns. It appears he's with both. How long from the first visit until you were in surgery? I have been dieting for a year under supervision with my doctor and only lost about 30 pounds. I'm hoping I won't have to go through more supervised dieting. My insurance waives the required dieting program if your BMI is over 50 which mine is.
DaisyAmy 561 Posted March 16, 2016 Whatever your insurance requires should be what they do. My insurance was similar, but I had to do the 6 month weight loss program because I didn't meet that BMI. You can sign up for a seminar on the Beaumont website. Good luck to you!!
sgc 538 Posted March 16, 2016 Did get to speak to someone at Dr Hawasli office. He is pretty booked up and won't get an appointment until April 25th. They said my insurance will cover and since my BMI is so high, I just need a letter and can go right to the table.

sgc 538 Posted April 28, 2016 I did end up visiting Dr Hawasli. Seemed pretty nice but didn't spend much time. This was more of an orientation. Got my letter from my primary care and I'm doing the psych evaluation today so I will have everything I need to submit to insurance. Once I get that, I believe next is an endoscopy and pre op diet.
