London Lapbander visiting New York

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My name is Christopher and I live and work in London, UK. I had a lap band fitted in February of this year and have to date lost about 100lbs.

I am visiting New York in September this year and would love to meet up with fellow lapbanders in NY and if there are any support groups would also love to attend. Any information or contact from NY lapbanders would be most appreciated.

Anna: I'm staying at The Pod Hotel (formerly the Pickwick arms) on East 51st.

Marc: I have e-mailed you.

Very much looking forward to visiting NY next month.

Chris- Im out in suffolk county which is about 60 miles from NYC- its out on Long Island. So, the support group I go to might be to far. You might want to look at the tread for support groups in NYC.

Hi Chris- I'd love to meet up with you when you hop across the pond. I live about ten blocks south of your hotel.

I looked at the dates of your visit and unfortunately you'll miss the support groups that I usually attend, (Mt. Sinai's group meets the first Wednesday of each month, and NYU's group is the third Wednesday) but maybe you and I and Marc can make our own group and get together for shakes and stories.

I've been banded almost three weeks now and am down about 20 pounds so far.

Feel free to e-mail me as well and I'll give you my contact info: midtownchic78@hotmail.com

Either way, have a great trip!

-Valerie

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
