excercise & work post gastric sleeve

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering how long after being sleeved you were able to return to work ? I ask this as I want to have the operation but I have just started a new job so can't have to much time off. And also how long after the surgery people were able to return to exercising..... I know I really need to do this but have sooo many questions

I went back to work 2 weeks after surgery. I have a job that is not at all physically demanding. As for exercise, I think around 4-6 weeks I was able to start actually exercising, but of course before then I was encouraged to walk, walk, walk to stay active and avoid blood clots, etc.

I took a full month off. Mainly because my follow ups would have been 500 miles away. It turned out to be a really good jump start to wearing out the soles of my shoes.

Now that I'm back to work and it takes like 2 minutes to eat I walk leisurely for about a half hour during lunch.

I was off work for a week after surgery. I had surgery on 2-12 and went back to work on 2-22. I'm a teacher so my job is not physically demanding though. I started going to the gym and walking on the treadmill and doing the exercise bike after my 1 week post of appointment. I started more strenuous exercise after my 1 month post op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
