I'm 6- 7 months out and I feel like I can eat a lot more. I still measure food out. But I'm sure I can eat more than 1/2 cup of food. Is it possible to stretch your pouch at this point? Or does it stretch a bit after 6 months. I can gulp Water too.

Dont know how to feel about this. I have very little restriction.

After surgery, your body undergoes many changes in time. Sure you can probably consume more than 1/2 cup at your stage but do you really want to. The "weight loss" phase is short and it is important to maximize your weight loss in this phase because before you know it you will slide into the "maintenance" phase. This program is set up to produce weight loss by meal volume control.

It may not stretch your pouch but the extra volume can sure throw your body into a weight loss stall.

Actually your pouch does not stretch. There is a great you tube video from Dr Matthew Weiner an obesity doctor in Michigan. It is hard to explain but over time your body relaxes and starts to accept more food, not sure if this is correctly explained the video will help. I am just over 6 months and can eat more too, more as the day goes on. I recently stopped taking a medication and since then feel that it has increased. I always measure/weigh my food and track what I eat.

Thanks for the replies.

Just for some points of clarification. Do I habitually eat more than a 1/2 cup? No. It depends on the textures. Certain foods seem to pass through more easily. For example, yogurt doesnt give me the same feeling of fullness that it did at 5 months out. I'm pretty diligent about measuring out everything. The pouch seems more pliable, and that scares me to an extent. i'm well educated about my own surgery and I realize the honeymoon period is almost over for me. i'm still making good choices. Three, you made me feel a lot better knowing someone is feeling the same way around month six!

Thanks again!

I'm 5 months out and sometimes I wonder if I'm supposed to be able to eat "that much" at a time. But then I sit down to have chicken/steak/tuna and can only it a few bites before I'm full and then I know OK that's more like it.

One thing I know for sure is that carbs go down a lot more easily and with less of the full feeling than high Protein foods. So I really try to eat my Protein first.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
