Lap band to gastric bypass revision info

Recommended Posts

Wow you all know my pain. I was banded in 09 and have regretted it everyday since. It is painful, and embarrassing to vomit almost daily. I have two more appts and then I wait to hear if I am approved for the bypass. Good luck to all

Embarrassing is so true!! I was at a wirk function once 100 people for a stand up lunch in a courtyard setting. I aye something that just stuck instantly and straight away i was vomiting into my serviette and standing over the rubbish bin. I had no option. I felt like i was going to projectile vomit so i was lucky to get to the bin! It was soooo embarrasing!

Pure misery and gained 1 to 2 pounds consistently...I was ravenous beyond compare...only soft ...not good foods were tolerable...my chocolate cravings were out out of sight...just miserable. My teeth suffered,my gums are a mess...

RNY has changed the game.

Im so glad to hear that the rny has cganged everything for you pinkgirl1234!

The concept of creating a tiny compartment of stomach and not expecting the larger stomach (and the ghrelin) to be sending hunger signals is ludicrous!!

I gave to wonder what the hell the original developers were thinking??

The physiology of the body reacts to starvation with cravings...thats why the bypass is do much more successful by actually changing the hormones.

Have you tried a glass of wine or similar at all yet?

Im not a big drinker, but i do like a glass of wine occasionally. Info says it affects you much more.

With 3 days to go I'm still nervous and trying to convince myself its the right move.

Cant get the fesr of the future out of my head!!!

So follow up from all my testing.....I have been diagnosed with gastroparesis, severe gastritis, and hiatal hernia. Has anyone had any of these diagnoses. The egd (scope) verified that my pain was real. I have been upset all weekend thinking about all the issues my lap band has caused me. Anyone go through this before revision?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
