Starting liquid diet tomorrow, any tips?

Recommended Posts

Good luck!

My advice:

Focus on what you CAN have, not what you can't.

Stay hydrated and have something to drink with you at all times.

Stay busy.

Remind yourself that you can do anything for two weeks and that it will be over soon.

Remember why you are doing it: to be healthy and have the best chance for a safe and successful surgery.

You can do it!

Avoid carbs like the plague. Is it strictly liquids? No fruits or veggies?

What kind of broth did you use?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Vietnamese Phô broth is what kept me going. It filled me up, tasted great, and contains some Protein in it (3g per cup according to MFP). I'm 4 days out, and it's been hard getting cold liquids down, and the warm phô broth makes things so much nicer for me.

Are you having just the Pho broth or the fixings added in it, like the meat and noodles and veggies?

Just the broth. That in itself was much more satisfying than canned chicken broth. [emoji37]

True dat! I'm glad you mentioned it. I love Pho. Even just the broth is a treat.

I hope things are going well you guys and good luck with the surgery. I'm scheduled for 4/14 so my liquid diet starts 4/4. I think I am more concerned about the liquid diet than I am the actual surgery just because I turn into the spawn of Satan when I haven't eaten and get hungry. (I'm not proud of that.)

I will definitely try Pho broth though! Thanks you guys and good luck!

My surgeon requires 3 weeks of Protein Shakes and crystal light. Supposed to get 80-120 grams of Protein per day. They say no to everything else. Just left the office from my first weigh in pre surgery. Finished my first week of no food, two more to go... this is tough! I definitely agree, more stressed about the pre surgery diet than the surgery its self. After surgery our stomachs will be smaller and we will not be so HUNGRY.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
