7.5 months post-op and only down 63lbs

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I started this process in January 2015 at 293lbs. I lost weight as part of my insurance requirements and after that and the 2 week pre-op diet, I was down to 254 on the morning of my surgery. Here I am, 7.5 months post and I have only lost 63lbs. I'm currently hovering around 191-193 and have only lost about 6 lbs in the last 2 months or so.

I know I'm not doing everything right. I almost never drink enough Water. Exercise is non-existent. Between work and family I only get an hour or so (if I'm lucky) of me time each day and I really don't want to spend it exercising. I know some will say that's an excuse and it probably is. Ever since the holidays where I let myself indulge here and there, it's been hard getting back on track. I do great all week and then have a tendency to eat things I shouldn't on weekends. Obviously nothing like I used to eat, but some bad things nonetheless.

I keep hearing my surgeons voice telling me that I need to lose all my excess weight in the first year. That's what he's always told me because apparently it gets harder after that. I still have 50 lbs I want to lose and I am beginning to feel like maybe I can't do it. I know what I need to do but something is holding me back from doing it.

Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do to get back on track? I've even considered counseling to try to get my head straight. Someone talk some sense into me.

All together, it took me 18 months to lose 96 pounds. I'd lost 85 the first year. There is no expiration date on weight loss.

If you know what you are doing wrong but still aren't fixing it, then I think counseling is your best bet.

Hang in there - I feel the same way inspiration will come to you. I have been using you tube to exercise I walk with Leslie sanson - kids in bed and I use that time to walk . I try and prep on Sunday's for the week as well. I am 7.5 months out and am in a stall - I continue to do my best that is all you can do

I don't know if inspiration will just "come to you", but recognizing that you don't like your results and that you need to do something different is a step in the right direction.

Now, take another step.

I would suggest that you recommit to following your program. Make an appointment today with your NUT to talk about your progress, your goals, and how to get there.

Find out when the next bariatric support meeting is and attend.

Talk to the person who did your psych clearance and find out if they can see you or can refer you to someone.

Go back to basics:

Drink 64 oz of Water a day. Just do it.

Track your food.

Make sure you get in ALL of your Protein every day.

Avoid starches, added sugars, and fried foods.

Take your Vitamins and supplements as instructed.

Exercise. (You have got to find a way to move, even if it isn't a formal exercise program. If you can, get a fitness tracker so you can at least track how much activity you engage in daily. That will give you a place to start for adding in activity/movement, and even "exercise").

You know what to do! You obviously did something right to lose as much as you have up to now. Don't give up!

Embrace the Stall!

sometimes I trick myself by saying I only have to walk 5 minutes, or 10 or whatever it is. Try to tell yourself that - but if you truly don't have more than an hour for yourself, I wouldn't spend the whole thing working out. You can get some great walk in place videos that are 20 minutes, or on the wii, or I love Peggy Cappys yoga for the rest of us. I think that a 20 minute yoga "me time" three days a week would do wonders for you.

That being said, you are ALREADY a success, whether you loose any more or not. so try to make good choices, and try to not beat yourself up over what's done.

whether or not it gets harder, you have this tool for life.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
