Calories and Carbs

I am 7 months out I had the gastric sleeve. I haven't been worried about calories, but I still want to know because I am unsure of how many calories and carbs I am supposed to be consuming. Can some one please let me know? I was told not to worry about calories but I want to keep everything going as good as it's going. Also Is one cup of food to much? So far I've lost 95 pounds. I know that the "honeymoon" period will be coming to a end soon.

Weight loss is achieved primarily through volume control rather than calorie control. But the types of foods are also limited by how far out you are after surgery.

The volume of food is somewhat dependent upon the type of surgery you had. I had RNY gastric bypass and at the 7th month post op mark, the program limited me to 5 ounces (5/8 of a cup) per meal.

The weight loss phase is very short. It is important to follow the program requirements if you want to maximize your weight loss during this phase. Because you will find yourself in the maintenance phase before you know it.

I had the sleeve. My program Nut says 1st year 700-900 calories and 12-36 mths 1000-1400. 1/2-1 cup per meal. I haven't gotten an actual carb count limit yet. But she stresses that we really need to eat carbs.

Thank you. It's confusing some say no carbs or no more then 20g then they say 200g. I just want a sure answer up until now I pretty much stayed away but I feel I should have a certain amount just don't know how much is enough.

When I was at your stage, my limits were:

--no more than 1000 calories per day

--no more than 60 grams of carbs per day

--no liquid calories or Snacks other than Protein Shakes

--no grains, no starchy veggies, no sweets

My directions were similar to Bufflehead's. At two years and two months, I can eat a cup of something dense (like chili with beans) or two cups of a green salad because it's mostly Water.

My activity level is low because of orthopedic issues, and 1,000 calories is maintenance for me.

I too am unable to be as active because of my children and some health issues but I do walk a lot . Thank you

At 19 months out I eat 1200 calories and around 100 grams of carbs

I'm a year and 3 months out, and I eat around 1400 calories and around 50-100 carbs (I try to keep it around 75 tho).

I have a high activity level however. Yoga 2X week, body weight routine 2X week, walk ~5 miles 5X week, and soon to be biking and swimming 5X week (all of this is in addition to regular errands/chores and I also do my own yardwork/gardening).

The honeymoon period where the weight is "easy" to lose is around 12-18 months according to my doctor. But if you're watching your calories and keeping your activity level high and throwing in some curve balls periodically you can continue to lose weight like normal people do - 1-2 pounds a week (like having an occasional higher carb day if you're eating lower carbs or having a super low carb day every once in a while or having a day of high intensity exercise followed by a very low activity day to change things up).

I've always been a slower loser, and the last 4 months I've lost around 5-7 pounds per month. My doc believes my high activity level is causing a slow down and told me to eat more (ha!), and I'm building muscle and losing fat so it doesn't show up on the scale as much as in my clothing sizes.

my wife and I are both getting surgery next week but we're wondering how people can exercise without being able to drink a lot of Water at once or really consume very many calories...

I exercise five days a week on average, usually for thirty to forty minutes. I walk or ride my exercise bike.

Okay cool .. I'm only 7 months out my NUT haven't given me a carb count I have to figure that part out ok my own

I didn't exercise. I just waled 2-5 miles a day and lost that way. I didnt start exercisin until I could drinkmwater normally and calories were over 800 everyday.

You can lose weight without exercise. I think it iseasier and faster weight loss not to exercise but to just walk. If you burn a lot of calories working out, you have to guess on increasing your calories enough that you don't go into starvation mode. And keep that balance.

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

      The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

        Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
