Endoscopy on Thursday. I've had a colonoscopy in the past but never an endoscopy. I don't like the idea of something down my throat. Makes me a little panicky. How is the procedure?

Mine was like a little nap! When I woke up I could remember small things like I remember them telling me to open my mouth. When I woke up I was pretty drowsy all day, and they said my throat might be sore but mine wasn't. I also had it done 2 days before Christmas and was fine on Christmas Day!

Mine was a piece of cake. Gave me a drug in the OR that made me feel fabulous for about 15 seconds. Then I woke up in the recovery room feeling fine. I also had no sore throat. I was back in the car in my way home by 9am. I was a little sleepy later in the day and took a nice long nap. All in all a pretty relaxing day!

I can't speak to the colonoscopy as I've never had one. My wife has had several and says the prep for it is by far the work part.

As for the psych exam, mine was good. I just chatted with the psychologist about my motivations for the surgery and how I got to that place. The therapist herself had RNY so she was clearly sympathetic and exited for me.

Agree - EGD was very easy. You will be asleep and then awake in recovery before you know it!

I actually just had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy yesterday! They're very easy. I think I have more memories than most people do, as I actually remember gagging on the scope a little as they took it out and watching part of the colonoscopy lol. Kinda weird in retrospect, but it wasn't distressing in the slightest. I was just like "oh that's my intestines" and then next thing I knew I was asleep again. I was sleepy yesterday, but totally fine by evening. Drinking all the prep solution is far worse than the procedure itself. Don't sweat it!

I had an upper endoscopy last year - 6 months pre-op - and I was scared out of my mind but it wasn't a big deal at all. I asked for some anti-anxiety meds as soon as I got there and they gave me a valium. Then when the procedure started, the drug they give you is amazing. The spray they use to numb your gag reflex tastes horrible but that's the worst part of the whole deal. It took me longer to come out of the twilight medicine than the entire look-see took. I was starving when done and we went and I had some oatmeal afterwards - no sore throat or anything.

I know it's scary but it's a good prep to see how you'll do when the big surgery day comes!! Just relax and if you need something to calm down, ASK for it!!

Just had mine Friday. It took 15 min and was NOTHING. I was a nervous wreck for no reason. That was my very last pre-op test. Two more nutritionist appointments and my file gets submitted to BCBS. Praying for a May surgery! Good luck ladies! :)

So the endoscopy revealed a large hiatal hernia and a duodenal ulcer! I have to be on ulcer meds and a med for acid reflux for 6 weeks and then have a repeat Endoscopy. Surgeon says a gastric sleeve would not be a good option for me with that large of a hiatal hernia. He still sees the gastric bypass as possible but the ulcer must be healed first. Disappointing but hopefully the ulcer will heal and I'll still be a candidate. No surgery in April though. Maybe May.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
