Has anyone have the 2 step revision process: 1st surgery band removed & then had to wait 6 weeks to the RNY? How fast was your recovery from having the band removed?

I am in the process of trying to be approved to have my band removed and revised to RNY. I had the band placed back in 2013 & thought I was going the conservative route ... Ugh!! If I could go back in time & tell have myself not to do it, I would. I hate this damn thing ... Long story short, it has slipped and it is unfilled. I switched surgeons due to insurance purposes (and well, I didn't feel like my last surgeon listened to my concerns) ... He does a 2 step revision. He wants to remove the band, see how bad the scar tissue is & let that heal. Then go back in 6 weeks and revise.

Hi

i am having a revision to gastric bypass, I had my band in 2008 and it worked well for me, i kept all my excess weight off until 2013 when I had really bad gerd and it was discovered that the band had slipped/eroded. I decided to let things settle down and managed to maintain my weight for a little while as at that point I didn't want to go through another surgery. Now over 2 years later, I have regained 2/3 of my excess weight and am booked for a bypass on 2nd April.

i know that some people have the gastric bypass on the day the band is removed but I wanted to allow my body to heal. I think your surgeon knows best, take the advice offered. I originally wanted a sleeve but my surgeon advised me that due to scar tissue from my band and the risk of leaks on the staple lines, RNY is better. He said he didn't want to be revising me from a sleeve to a bypass in another couple of years.

Good luck, hope everything works out well for you.

Sue

I am in the process of going through insurance approval for my revision from band to RNY. My surgeon does it in 1 surgery unless something will come up during surgery that will require the 2 step. Hope everything goes well with you. I had my band placed in 2007 I think I have been regretting it since, should have gone with RNY all along but I was too scared.

I am a 2 step revision. My band was placed in 2010 and was a problem from the start. My surgeon is removing it this week. We will wait 12 weeks for things to heal and revise to bypass in June.

I wish I would have done the RNY from the get go, but I was too scared. I was just curious how little time off I can take off from work from the band removal part. I am jumping the gun b/c I'm still awaiting insurance approval.

I have an office job and am takng three days. Surgeon said some could do band removal on Friday and go back to work on Monday. I'm 64 and didn't see that being wise for me.

When my band was removed, I immediately felt a million times better than I had in ages. I was out walking my dogs the next day and back to work the day after.

Everyone heals differently so take as long as you need. I think that I will rest up for a few days after my RNY

I am in the process of waiting for insurance approval, however my surgeon say he is a 2 step surgeon. He said he will go in and if he can do it then he will after the lap band removal. But If there is to much damage to the stomach then he will make me wait 3-6 months. But that is scary to me cause after he removed all my Fluid in November I gained 35 pounds. I have bad GERD and an enlarged esophagus and pain in my left upper quadrant. Good luck and keep us informed.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
