Band our sleeve in on 3/30

Recommended Posts

Ok my surgery is getting closer! My doc told me 1-2 days in hospital and send home with drainage tubes. Anyone give me some info on the tubes and are they discreet and do you think I will be up to a Dodger game 16 days later! Also bummed I can't do my 10k in May, she told me too soon and chance of dehydration! So bummed as its a RunDisney event! And info and advice greatly appreciated!

Just had surgery on 3/2...your drainage tube can be fairly discreet, but if it is still in you aren't going to want to go anywhere. Dodgers game might be possible after 16 days depending on how young you are and how well you bounce back. For me, I have been cold all of the time since my surgery, then again, I am from Michigan. I would say the 10k is out of the question, this is major surgery...your body needs time to recover!! Good luck with your surgery

My surgeon had the drain removed at discharge from the hospital so I can't answer that question. Did they tell you how long you need to keep them?

As far as the Dodgers game goes, I think it depends on the person and how quickly you heal. I was sleeved on Tuesday and came home from the hospital on Wednesday. I was able to drive to and attend a meeting on Thursday evening (2 days after surgery). I was attending baseball playoff games about two weeks after surgery so you may well be able to go without problems.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
