First Visit 14th and got paperwork today.. Confused.

Recommended Posts

Hi ! Last week the office called and said they verified with insurance and my first appt is Monday 14th to see the doctor and psychologist. I've been trying to find what my insurance requires for approval and am having no luck. Today I got in the mail a benefits summary but it still doesn't show requirements etc? It also had included a paper for me to approve the office to discuss with them anything with my insurance etc. anyone else ?

I have anthem BCBS

Look for a clinical bulletin published by BCBS that should tell you all the requirements.

What state is your bcbs policy through? I have bcbs il and the medical policy is on line. You should be able to call customer service and ask what is the criteria for the procedure to be a covered benefit.

Ohio

I got a summary sent to me by them but it doesn't show anything but that it's covered and my out of pocket.

I went online and see nothing on my page at all.

Sounds like they sent you your benefits. It may be that your plan doesn't have any specific requirements. That's good. However, anthem has a medical policy which most likely has specific requirements. I would call back and ask about that ask to speak with a supervisor of you aren't getting you questions answered with detail. Your doctors office may also have experience working with them and might know the medical policy, you could ask the surgery coordinator.

I love your binder!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your practice should have a min insurance coordinator who may be familiar with your requirements or be able to find out for you.

Best of luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
