Turning in paperwork to Cigna

Recommended Posts

So I'm about to turn in my paperwork to Cigna. Just have one appointment to go to and that's nutrition. I will have everything ready to go right after the appointment, which is Tuesday. How long will it take to get your approval?

I think they have up to 30 days but I believe most get a response in 1 or 2 weeks. I actually got move in less than 24 business hours (submitted on a Friday at noon and surgeons office called me the following Monday morning). Just be sure you have EVERYTHING including letter of recommendation from PCP or doctor other than the surgeon (this was the last thing I was missing when I thought we were ready to submit).

I also have Cigna. They say 15 business days. Double & Triple check your dietician and physical therapy dates. Cigna originally told me 3 months of appointments then denied my surgery. The reason they gave was because I didn't have 89+ days of nutrition & PT counseling . Well, we all thought that 3 months met the requirement but they are very firm on that 89+ days. My doctors got me right in and resubmitted immediately . I received go ahead within the 15 days. Very picky, it cost them extra appointments. Good Luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
