EXAMPLE of what u told doctor about your past diets

Just looking to see what others say,, i dont want to give to much info and not enough.. Is there something they are looking for? I love all foods,, my issue is Portion Control.

they really just want to establish a history of where you have attempted nonsurgical weight loss but haven't been able to maintain the weight loss. At my first appointment I told the nutritionist about my two most recent attempts. the first being 6 months on nutrisystem where I lost 40lbs but instead of being able to reduce my blood pressure and cholesterol meds, I actually ended up having to increase my dosages on both. Since the reason I was trying to lose weight was to reduce those meds, I got frustrated and stopped the program and immediately gained all the weight back. Then more recently, I did a completely vegan diet for about 10 months - lost 70lbs but had severe Hair loss, didn't feel all that great (was constantly getting colds etc) and struggled with getting in enough Protein on a strictly vegan diet. Overall, I just couldn't maintain living completely vegan and then underwent several traumatic events in my life where I returned to bad eating habits and gained all the weight back plus more. That was all she needed to hear. My advice would be to be honest with them.

That was my thing i didnt want to say too much to get kicked out or idunno im nerveous lol I have tried what i knew,, extremly low car, (eggs only- which i knew was not a lifestyle but a quik few pounds that came back ten fold) and low calorie.. Im an over eater,,, i know thats my issue... and drinks.

I said I've tried Weight Watchers more times than I can count and that I've been paying a monthly fee for their online program since 2003 - at one point losing 72 pounds and then gaining it all back, plus more; I also gave the names of some of the diet books I've tried over the years and said I'd done lowfat/high carb multiple times back in the 90s when that was the prevailing wisdom and then lower carb more recently now that that is what most people do. I said each time I've tried any/all of these things, I'd lose anywhere from 8 to 70+ pounds and inevitably be unable to keep it off.

@@katanne is this the starting phase for you as well? i have done basiclly what u have i just wasnt sure if they see that as a failure that you cant do surgery either? thats my fear lol

Yes, I'm just getting started. It actually looks good (and appropriate) to have had failures at dieting attempts in the past - it's usually a requirement by the insurance companies before they approve you for surgery.

If any of us were successful with any of the non weight loss surgery methods, we wouldn't be having the surgery, would we?

Letting them know about your past diet failure attempts only shows them we need the surgery that much more.

I get that lol i just think there is a line of when your good enough to follow a post of surgery diet adn when your not.. im worrying too much ! lol

One surgeon that I had considered seeing had a sheet with how much did you weigh at age 10, 15, 20, etc. And they also wanted to know what diets you had tried. I thought that was a good way of remembering my ups and downs on the scale. I filled that out and brought it to my surgeon's visit. I actually had to reference it in my psychologist visit too. But basically the surgeon just wanted to know which diets I had tried and how much I had lost and gained with them.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
