Leesa926 72 Posted March 11, 2016 I've always had a little Stress and Anxiety even the psychologist before surgery mentioned I should go on something. Lately though it has been a lot worse at times like right now I feel like I'm going to have a nervous breakdown. Work has been extra stressful for me. I had surgery about 3 months ago I don't really think it's related but just wanted your thoughts on if it's something I should talk to my surgeon about I tried to call my doctor but they don't have an appointment for almost two weeks right now I'm just feeling I might need to go to the Urgent Care Center Just wondered if anyone had an issue like this after surgery
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted March 11, 2016 If you are feeling completely overwhelmed and like you really can't handle things right now, then I do think you should probably go to the urgent care. They may be able to quickly refer you to someone, if you can't get a referral through your PCP or surgeon right away.
livvsmum 2,369 Posted March 11, 2016 Definitely seek out the medical help that you need! If you feel like you are having a panic attack, definitely get some help! To answer your question, yes, my anxiety was heightened after surgery because my method of dealing with stress and anxiety was to binge eat so I would not think about what was bothering me. Now, I found myself post op and not being able physically to do that. It was a tough time adjusting to new coping mechanisms. I started therapy with an eating disorder therapist and have been able to deal with things that way.
breezy25 69 Posted March 11, 2016 Def seek help. I suffer from pretty bad anxiety and I'm on medication for it. I briefly weaned off a couple of months ago because the med I'm on tends to make me gain weight. Needless to say I'm super anxious about the upcoming surgery and had a full blown panic attack yesterday. So today, back on the meds. There is no shame in getting some help and I agree, if you feel overwhelmed you should get in with your PCP. An urgent care type of place isn't the best for this type of thing.
