Stretching after walking

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 6 days ago. I joined a running/ walking clinic to help hold me accountable. After walking for about 45 minutes the instructors has us do some stretches. I didn't do all of them because I was worried I'd hurt myself. Does anyone know when it's safe to stretch?

I guess it depends on what you are doing. I know at 6 days out I was very careful with my abdomen. I would certainly be careful about stretching that area. Also, getting up off the ground or anything that engages those muscles may be problematic.

You may want to run this by your surgeon.

If possible you should try to stretch your legs (shins, calfs, hamstrings, and quads). When I first started walking several years ago I got horrible shin splints from not stretching. For walking you should just need to do your legs and not worry too much above that at this stage.
