1-1/2 years post-op; food aversions, gas, bloating, digestive issues

Recommended Posts

306lbs., 09/11/14. 175 lbs., 03/11/16. yea! but, i current exhibit what seems like "morning sickness" all day until i can pass all the gas and clear the bowels. i am having difficulty drinking Water, and the mere sight of any food makes me want to puke. i'm also fatigued, lack much strength, suffer from depression. i found a frozen fruit/veggie bar (strawberry/rhubarb) that i can tolerate, half at a time; or a dollop of yogurt with slice banana/strawberry is of comfort.

anyone else have anything like this?

No, quite the opposite really. I am almost 1.5 years post op and can tolerate just about any food at larger quantities. I am much more careful about my food choices as compared to before surgery and it makes all the difference.

I'm sorry you are going through this. Are you still taking your bariatric Vitamins? How are your labs? Have you notified your bariatric doctor about your complications?

I do find that my energy is lacking on days that I don't get at least 100 grams of Protein. How much Protein are you consuming everyday?

labs are all pretty good; a little low on vit D, zinc, magnesium and potassium... i take supplements; we recheck next week.

i forgot to mention the "foamy gassy bubbles"... maybe a gut yeast?

if it matters, my age is 55.

thank you!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
