Recommended Posts

Ok I don't need any criticism just need some advice friendly advice. So I feel like I eat too much at one sitting but not for the whole day if that makes sense?? I had surgery Oct 7th. Lost 91 but been stuck for about a month. I feel like I eat more than a cup. How much do you guys eat and how many calories a day? Anyone have surgery around the time I did?

I feel the same way. I know my stomach is smaller and I feel full but I sometimes still think I can eat the way I used to. Which often leads to vomiting. I've been tracking my food on loseit.com and staying under 1,000 calories a day. It calculates how much Protein you get in a day too. I am bad with measuring.

I'd recommend just measuring out your food. Then after a couple of months you'll be able to eyeball it.

@@sarahbrianna723125 I'll be 7 months post op in a week, and I eat the same now as I did when I was at 5 months - I get between 600-900 calories a day, and usually about a third of that is from a Protein Shake. The rest is lean meat, cheese, occasional veggies when I have room, and sometimes the Soups from the Bariatric Pal Store. When I go over that, I stall, unless I do a LOT of physical activity on the days I eat over 900 calories.

oh, also sometimes nuts/peanut butter, hummus, and certain fruits like bananas. Generally I try to stay away from fruit until I've gotten enough Protein. Really your goals should be centered on low carb, low sugar, high Protein, and once you've met that protein goal, the rest is veggies and some fruit. That's the general diet that is recommended.

I think that logging your food will really help. Try breaking that one larger meal into smaller meals. Once you log your food you will be able to make a better assessment of what needs to be done. I am about 5 months out from surgery and eat around 800 calories, although my NUT wants me to increase to 1000.

My pattern of weight loss is: lose 10 pounds - stall for about 4 weeks, repeat. So I wouldn't be too concern about your stall right now if I were you - just get yourself regulated because your body handles many smaller meals better than one larger. I don't know about you, but if I don't log everything and be intentional about eating and drinking, I tend to not get enough calories. I do much better when I plan my meals out and can push myself to eat over the 800 calories.

You have lost a lot of weight so far - congratulations! ...And even though you have not been measuring your food, you have not been gaining. There is a lot to be said for that, too. Measuring what we eat probably should be a habit for the rest of our lives.

Good luck on your journey!

oh, and my surgery was October 19th - so close to when you had yours. Do you still see your NUT? It might help to talk with them - also, if you can find a support group in your area...

lol - and how much I eat depends on what food it is. Soup - about 2/3 cup - 1 egg with cheese - - but I can only eat about 3 bites of some meats - like chicken breast. I also can't eat but a couple bites of tuna, but can eat 4 ounces of salmon or tilapia. Although I cannot eat but a couple bites of chicken breast, I can eat 4 ounces of chicken thigh. I can eat a lot of shrimp, too.

Since I need to get my Protein in and cannot tolerate the Protein shakes, I tend to eat what is easier for me to tolerate in larger amounts. I try to break my Protein into 4 or 5 servings - getting around 15 - 20 in for a meal and about 5 in for a snack.< /p>

I also drink FairLife milk from time to time as it is lactose free, lower in sugar, and higher in protein than regular milk. I don't drink Protein Shakes as my stomach doesn't tolerate whey very well and the rest of them are putrid (in my opinion) - but I do eat Life Choice Protein Bars (1/2 before and 1/2 after working out) They have 7 grams sugars and 18 protein. Hope this helps...

I had surgery September 30th and I can eat about a cup, sometimes more if the food is soft. The more dense the Protein, the less I can eat. On salads I can eat about a cup and a half with a chicken breast. I asked my NUT and she said this was about on track. She is not worried because I am still losing. I average about 1000 calories a day and she would like to see it closer to 1200. I'm trying, but not pushing. I have my 6 month visit in 2 weeks and I hope to talk to her more about serving sizes.

Sometimes it scares me, because I watch you tubes of people at 6 months out taking 30-45 minutes to drink a Protein Drink. I have one every couple of days and I can drink it in about 15 minutes. Am I going too fast? I have no idea. I do know the longer it takes, the warmer the drink. I can't do room temp food or drink. Ice cold or very hot is where my tummy likes it.

Hi. I had my surgery 11/23/15. I measure everything so i don't over eat. I am still at 1/2-3/4 cup total per meal at the most. I've lost 70 so far. I always get in my Water and only 3 meals a day. I never snack to avoid bad grazing habits. That would be my down fall. I don't ever eat any chip type or bars of any kind because I also feel for me this would trigger me into eating my old types of foods. The cravings are gone so this is easy for me. Eat my Protein first and i use reduced fat whenever i can. I am always reading labels and I don't like artificial ingredients if I can help it. I always have a Protein drink in the morning with almond milk and that starts me out with 50 grams of protein in the beginning of each day. No caffeine or carbonation. I will drink a protein drink every morning probably for the rest of my life. Makes me feel good and it tastes good too. I use Jay Robb chocolate and i love it. I use the Bariatric fusion chewable wafers and I take 4 per day which is super easy (2 am 2 pm). From what i read I think snacking is what gets people in trouble. Its all about the quantity. I also use the Baritastic app to track what i eat all day. Then i record them in a journal once a week so i have a permanent record. So far so good. For me all this works. For others it could be a different story.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
