Anyone have experience with Dr. Noel Williams @ Penn Medicine?

I am two weeks post-op from getting my VSG with Dr. Noel Williams at Hospital of UPenn. While I encountered some small scheduling snafus with the office, overall I’ve had a very positive experience. I’m covered by Aetna and had to attend 3-4 medical weight management sessions with Dr. Williams and his team of nutritionists in Valley Forge. Dr. Williams met with me each and every time and always remembered personal details about my journey. Day-of surgery he met with my entire family and filled them in on the process and my recovery status. They loved him too! I did end up in the bariatric ward of HUP and had fabulous well-informed, attentive nurses who really helped me to get up and on my way to recovery ASAP.

Ultimately I decided to go with Penn because I had felt Einstein and Main Line Health felt a little too “advertise-y” for me. Like the surgeries were being pushed as a cure-all, but Penn, I felt, was a much more straightforward presentation. Also, Penn is such a renowned hospital, I felt that reputation did something to put my subconscious at ease.

Good luck with your decision and journey!!

I am using Dr. Richard Ing. My surgery is at Bryn Mawr Hospital on 12/19/17. I would love to some input on others that have used him.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
