I had bypass 11/15 and seem to be at a stand still even though Im only 3+ month out. How do I jump start back to losing? I welcome any/all advice please. I seem to be able to eat anything that I want, just in smaller quantity already. I dont want to undue everything that I have done thus far. Thank you all in advance!

How long have you been at a stand still? Stalls are very normal and necessary as we drop the vast amounts of weight we do after surgery, and they often last much longer than we'd like. I just ended a 2.5 week stall and I'm 6 weeks out. Its not a big deal. Just focus on keeping your Protein and hydration on point. Once its done taking a breather, your body will start working its ass off again (literally) if its getting what it needs.

Stalls are common.

Your Protein requirement is a combination of the Protein that you consume from supplements (Protein shakes, protein bars) and the protein that you obtain from meals. In the beginning because you meal volume is restricted to a minuscule amount, you are force to rely on Protein Shakes. But as time goes on you meal volume increases. This give you the option of reducing the amount of protein supplement and the calories those supplements contain. But that is only if you concentrate on high protein meals. I am 34 months RNY. I went from 3 shakes a day, down to 2, then down to 1 and finally 0. When I hit my first stall around the 3 month mark, I cut off one shake and my stall disappeared.

The weight loss phase for RNY patients is very short and you want to maximize the weight loss during this period. So make sure you meet the daily requirements for protein, fluids and Vitamins. Limit yourself to the required volume size. Get around 30 minutes of walking each day and then let the magic happen.

In my case the issue seemed to be that I wasn't eating enough. I was only eating 2 of the 4 solid meals I was supposed to be. Adding a 3rd meal on most days got me moving again. It just all depends on what the issue is for you - and again, sometimes there isn't one and the body just needs a break. It's difficult to tell.

Thank you for your help. Did you have the bypass in Jan of 2015? If so congrats on your loss! I'm hoping for the same results that you did!

You're very welcome. My bypass was in Jan 2016, yes. My ticker is kind of deceiving though - only about 35 lbs of my loss has been since surgery, which is a normal amount I think. The rest was lost pre-op on my required 3 month supervised weight loss plan.

WOW! That is fantastic, so very happy for you. Ive lost 63 since mine on 11/16/2015 but am frustrated that the scale hasnt moved for a few weeks now so I appreciate your help. How long did it take you to lost the 120 then - 6 months?

I'm just ending a three week stall. I think part of it was because I stopped measuring some of my foods, like nuts and fruits, and I think I was getting more calories than I was recording. I'm learning that just because it is healthy doesn't mean you can eat as much as you want. Peanut Butter is another really good example of healthy but too calorie dense.

Congratulations on your weight loss. I have also lost 63 pounds. I had my RNY on Dec 1, 2015. I haven't stalled but the weight comes off slowly and steadily but not in large amounts at one time. Are you exercising? I started that in earnest about 3-4 weeks ago and I think that is helping. I actually don't think I'm eating enough. I decided to start logging in My Fitness Pal as of today so I know (and my NUT will know) exactly what I'm eating. I have trouble getting it all down, and still throw up each week, sometimes 2x, sometimes more.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
